Look at http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic. It belongs to the Geographic Names Information System of the USGS. You can put in any city and state and find which county the city, town, railroad, airport, cemetery, park, is in. You may need to indicate that the city or town is a populated place. Clicking on the name of the place gives you some information about it such as: Blackwell is the second settlement in the county. You have a choice of several mapping features. They used to use Tiger Maps which were very useful (they showed county boundaries). So far I haven't been able to find a good substitute. Blackwell is north of Macon and southwest of St. Louis. I've found GNIS very useful to find places. If you want to use it, copy the above URL. Trying to copy it from the site gives you a URL that doesn't work. There is a red warning near the top right where you can find the correct URL (the first "FAQ") that will work if you prefer to do it that way.
