William Andrew Patterson was born on December 30, 1910 in Ste. Genevieve Co. at Lawrenceton, Missouri, the son of Clara Elsba Thurman Patterson and John Wesley Patterson. The family moved to rural St. Francois Co. where he was raised on a farm. He was the last member of a large family of five boys and six girls, the identical twin of Jesse Harlen Patterson. Bill passed away on February 9, 2009 at the age of 98 years at Delmar Gardens of Meramec Valley. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Leanna Laws Patterson, and dear daughter, Janet Patterson. He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Patterson married Leanna Laws on November 22, 1939, and was a partner in the Federal Meat Company in St. Louis, MO. He went to work there temporarily as a salesman in 1946 and never left, becoming a partner a few years later and retiring in the mid 1970's. His twin brother was also a partner, and their families were members of the Southminster Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, MO since the Church had been in existence. The twins were always doing things together. Mr. Patterson enjoyed his long retirement. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golf. He was an "unofficial" coach of his beloved Cardinals baseball team, in later years from his couch through the television. He and his wife spent many winters in Florida. He was an avid gardener raising both flowers and vegetables. He enjoyed woodworking and hand made beautiful jewelry boxes. Bill had a good quality of life up until the last three weeks. He was called by his Minister as an intellectual person, and a happy and jolly person to all.
