Central Daylight Time, blondee@centurytel.net writes: The Daily Journal, Park Hills, St. Francois Co., MO, Saturday, August 22, 2009 PARK HILLS - Walter Clyde Jones of Park Hills was born June 24, 1918, in St. Francois County, the son of the late Grover and Carrie (Blackwell) Jones. He passed away at his residence on Thursday, August 20, 2009, at the age of 91 years. Walter was united in marriage to Lillie Mae (Thomas) Jones on August 29, 1945, and they were the parents of three children. Walter was preceded in death by his above-named parents; his beloved wife of over 60 years, Lille Mae, in 2006; three brothers, Paul D. Jones, Robert L. Jones, Grover Jones, Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy (Jones) Pope and Eula Belle (Jones) Chambers; and, one son-in-law, Robert Patrick O'Brien. Walter was survived by three children: Loralyn O'Brien of Park Hills, Missouri; Bettye Warner (and Danny) Gant of Terre Du Lac; and, Robert D. (and Patricia) Jones of Spring, Texas; three grandchildren, Corey W. (and Abi) Warner of Mine La Motte, MO, Thomas F. Warner, Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Melissa (Jones) Purifoy of Huntsville, TX; two great-grandchildren, Trey and Keith Purifoy of Huntsville, TX; sister-in-law, Helen (Mrs. Robert) Jones of St. Louis; and his beloved pet companion, Teddy. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Walter was a 1938 graduate of Desloge High School; a WWII veteran, having attained the rank of Tech Sergeant on February 22, 1944. He served with the 19th Bomber Group, 32nd Group, 5th Air Force and was in the South Pacific for 34 months where he participated in three major battles and was awarded three Bronze Stars. He was an employee of St. Joe Lead Company for many years until his retirement in the early 1980s. Walter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his family. He and his wife enjoyed camping and fishing, especially with the many friends they made at Pomme De Terre Lake. Walter was also a member of Desloge VFW. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. Visitation will be Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 4 until 9 p.m. at C Z Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge. Services, Monday, August 24, at 2 p.m. at C Z Boyer & Son Chapel in Desloge with Rev. Eddie Bone officiating. Interment, St. Francois Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Safe Harbor Hospice of Fredericktown or to the Arthritis Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
