    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, St. Francois County, Mo., Friday, July 2, 1943. Flat River News. Miss Georgia Laird of Denver, Colo., arrived Tuesday to spend two weeks with her father, J. C. Laird and other relatives. On Tuesday evening a farewell party was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Alexander in Elvins in honor of their brother, Jack Laird, who left Wednesday for Jefferson Barracks to be inducted into the U. S. Army. Members of the family present were Miss Georgia Laird, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Laird of Leadington, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Laird and daughter, Joan and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Howelett and children, Ronnie and Darlene, Mrs. George Webb and Mrs. Elgin Clay and Daughter, Jeanette of Flat River; Mr. and Mrs. Murrill Laird and sons, Jerry and Tommy of Iron Mountain and Mrs. Corbin Buxton of Bonne Terre. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served. Jack received several nice gifts. Jack's brother, Richard Laird, serving with the U. S. Navy as Hospital apprentice, is now stationed on Guadalcanal.
