FARMINGTON TIMES, Farmington, St. Francois County, Missouri, Thursday, Jan. 26, 1911 DECLARED TO HAVE BEEN ELECTROCUTED Charles Summers, aged about thirty-five, who was reported as having died of heart trouble just after going on shift at the Mitchell shaft of the Doe Run Lead Company, last Thursday morning, was not buried until Sunday afternoon, pending an investigation as to the cause of death. A coroner's jury was impaneled to determine the cause of death, and the jury returned a verdict of death from heart failure, but the widow of the dead man was not satisfied with the decision of the jury, and through the efforts of former Probate Judge G. O. Nations, an expert was summoned from St. Louis, and a post mortem examination was held by Dr. Gradwahl of St. Louis, and it is said that the expert was thoroughly satisfied that the cause of death was due to having been electrocuted. Summers went down into the shaft Thursday morning, and just before going down is said to have made the remark that after he had put in the day's shift he was going to get his pay and go home to see his family, who reside in Flat River. But five minutes later he was carried from the shaft a corpse. It is claimed that when Summers reached the bottom of the shaft he came in contact with a live electric wire by getting hold of a pipe wrench to which a broken wire had been connected by some unknown party. The voltage of the current knocked the young man down, and in falling he fell across the live wire, death resulting instantly. It is also claimed that a bright red streak was left on the dead man's arm, reaching to his body. The appearance of this led to the belief that death was due to some other agency than heart trouble. Summers was married and leaves a wife and one child, a boy eight or nine years of age. -- Desloge Sun.

FARMINGTON TIMES, Farmington, St. Francois County, Missouri, Thursday, January 19, 1911 "HOLY NAME SOCIETY" ORGANIZED HERE On last Sunday morning a number of gentlemen, members of the local Catholic congregation, took their obligation as members of the Holy Name Society. The origin of this society dates from the Council of Lyons, in the year 1274, in the reign of Pope Gregory X, when a feastday was appointed by which the Holy Name of Jesus might be becomingly honored. It became an organization in A.D. 1564, during the reign of Emperor Charles V, and by the letters of Pope Pius IV, encouraging the Dominican fathers to stem the tide of blasphemy and thwart the desecration of God's altars by sacrilegious fanatics. The members obligate themselves to labor individually for the glory of God's Holy Name; never to pronounce the name of God without respect; to avoid blasphemy, perjury and immodest and obscene language; to correct, with prudent zeal, those who blasphemy in their presence; to praise God in their hearts with the words: "Praise be to God," "Praise be to Jesus Christ," whenever anyone blasphemes in their presence; to induce all whom they can influence neither to work, buy or sell on Sunday, but to sanctify the Lord's Day. The Society was organized with the following officers: Willard AuBuchon, President; Jos. M. AuBuchon, Vice President; Henry Bieser, Treasurer; Fred Kerlagon, Secretary; Joseph Beck, Marshal; Board of Consultors: John Mueller, Frank Bieser, George Beck, Smith AuBuchon. The Communion and meeting day will be the third Sunday of each month.

Melanie, The newspaper apparently made a typo on this obit. According to my listing for Herod Cemetery, this child is listed as Helen Ruth Eaton, not Eton. Her father was James Henry Eaton, husband of Radie (Kindred). James Henry who is also buried at Herod was son of Matthew & Alice (Forshee) Eaton. Also buried at Herod is Alva Lee Eaton (1928-1976), son of Henry & Radie. My listing indicates that Baby Helen Ruth Eaton does not have a tombstone, but Alva Lee Eaton, does. Listing also indicates that no tombstone was found for their father, James Henry Eaton. However, in checking the obituaries, I found that Radie died in 1997 at 99 years of age and she was buried at Herod Cemetery so there may be a joint tombstone for them by now. I'm getting ready to place all the photos from Herod on online shortly so if there's one there for them, it will be posted. According to her obit, she was the daughter of Napoleon and Parzettie (McBride) Kindred. Scans of the obits of James Henry Eaton and Radie Eaton, his wife, parents of Baby Helen Ruth Eaton, as well as obits for other family members, are included in the obituary database put online by Ed Mackley. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mackley/Obit_Surname_Pages/Obit_Surnames_Page_E.htm Bettye On Sat, 18 Oct 2008 13:34:22 -0500 "Melanie Rickmar" <rickmar@cdinter.net> wrote: > LEAD BELT NEWS, Flat River, St. Francois County, >Missouri, Friday, Dec. 23, > 1932 > > HELEN RUTH ETON > > Helen Ruth Eton, baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry >Eton, was born April > 3rd, 1930, and passed away at their country home about >twelve miles from > Desloge, Mo., Dec. 11, 1932, aged 2 years, 8 months and >8 days.
