    3. I would like to thank Melanie Rickmar for all the hard work she puts into providing information to all of us. As it happens, I have recently spent a lot of time researching the family of James A. PERRY. This article adds a lot to what I had. James A. Perry was a step-uncle of my grandfather, Dennis L. HOPE, who also came from Doniphan to Flat River to work in the lead mines. James Perry's mother, Maria Elizabeth GATLIN PERRY married my g-g-grandfather, Jarrett DUDLEY when James was about 4 years old. This is one of the best Mail Lists I have found, thanks to all of the great volunteers. A. B. HIGGINS DIED WEDNESDAY __________ Funeral Services At Rivermines Catholic Church Saturday Morning at 8:30 __________ Flat River citizens were grieved Wednesday morning to learn of the rather sudden death of Mrs. Anna B. Higgins, which occurred early that morning, shortly after midnight. Funeral services will be held at the Rivermines Catholic Church at 8:30 o'clock Saturday morning, after which the funeral cortege will leave for St. Louis where interment will be made in Calvary Cemetery. Services at the Rivermines Church and in St. Louis will be conducted by Rev. J. A. Cunningham. Caldwell Brothers are in charge of arrangements. As a mark of respect, the business houses in Flat River will be closed during the hour of the service at the church. Mrs. Higgins had an attack of the flu several weeks ago, but was able to be up for a few days and had been at the drug store the week prior to her death. She had attended a funeral in Bonne Terre Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning when she awoke, she complained of a severe headache but her illness was not considered alarming until 2:30 in the afternoon, when she suffered a convulsion. About 4 o'clock she went into a state of coma, remaining unconscious until her death. Anna Bridget Perry was born in Doniphan, Mo., June 3, 1888. Her parents, Captain and Mrs. J. A. Perry, were among the first settlers in this community. For years her father served as mine captain for the Doe Run Lead Company and the Perry family resided in what is now the club house at Rivermines. She was educated at the Arcadia College and following her graduation there, she taught in the Flat River schools prior to her marriage. February 13, 1901, she was married to Ed. L. Higgins and to this union nine children were born, all of whom survive. They are Mrs. Richard E. Wagner (Fidelas), Mrs. Felix R. Brandon (Avolyn), Edward, Glennon, Lorraine, Marcella, Mary, Patricia and Helen. Mr. Higgins died August 16, 1927. She is also survived by two brothers, Dr. A. J. and Gerard Perry of St. Louis and five sisters, Miss Lenora of St. Louis, Mrs. J. E. Dempsey and Miss Helen Perry of New York City, N.Y., Misses Bertha and Marietta Perry of Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Higgins' mother died ten years ago on the same date of Mrs. Higgins' death. Her father died two years later. Mrs. Higgins was a woman of diversified abilities, capably assisting her husband in his various business interests and at the same time rearing her family and managing her home. As a bride and groom, Mr. and Mrs. Higgins established their home on West Main street where they reared their splendid family of children. For thirty-five years, Mr. Higgins operated the Higgins drug store, the first drug store to be established in the lead belt, in the same building in which he opened it, and since his death, Mrs. Higgins, with the efficient help of her family, has continued its operation. For the past two years, she has supervised the management of the Hammond Hotel, which is one of the many holdings of the Higgins family. She was ever thoughtful of the welfare of her family and friends. She was gracious and courteous to all, whether the person was a guest in her home or a customer in her store or an unfortunate one to whom she was extending aid. She was devoted to her family and her death has come as a great shock to them and her host of friends throughout St. Francois County join The News in offering sincere sympathy to her bereaved family. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MOSTFRAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Wanda, I'm curious ... what did Orville Watts do for Flat River/Park Hills to have a street named after him? I'm not doubting what you were told, but I just thought it made sense that it would have been the former Mayor of Flat River that the street was named after. I seem to recall that there was a Watts guy who was Sheriff at one time. Could that have been Orville? There's a gentleman by the name of Michael Miller who has done a lot of research on the Watts line too. 3. Randy, Yes, Roosevelt Street was renamed Watts Street. When several towns consolidated several years back and the 911 system came into being, a lot of streets were renamed so there wouldn't be any duplicate names which would cause confusion with 911 calls. I believe that Watts Street may have been named after John Wesley (J.W.) Watts who was a two-term mayor of Flat River back in the 1940s. Here is link to his obituary: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mackley/Library_obits_Jpegs/Obits_W_s/Obits_WA/WA_000649.jpg Bettye On Tue, 16 Dec 2008 15:15:59 -0600 "Randy Watts" <randy@ctstl.com> wrote: > Interested in your notation "Watts St. (Roosevelt St.)" > Was Roosevelt > renamed Watts? 3. Judy, I don't know of any cemeteries by those names, but there may be people with those surnames buried around in some of the other cemeteries in and around Flat River. If you can give some first names to narrow the search, I would be happy to see what I could find for you. There are several cemeteries in and around Flat River, the largest being Woodlawn Cemetery which is located in Leadington. There are also several different cemeteries located in Flat River behind the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (i.e. Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery, IOOF Cemetery, Knight of Pythias Cemetery, Workmen's Cemetery, Nativity Holy Virgin Mary Orthodox Church Cemetery, and the Greek Catholic (Byzantine) Cemetery. 3. Lydia Burgess below is a sister to Ida Noltkamper Gamblin, wife of William Gamblin. I found Lydia's death certificate in the MO database. I cannot find her husband Charles Burgess in that database. I believe the name to be Charles Robert Burgess, but according to the obit for William Gamblin he may have gone by Bob Burgess. He is listed in a couple of places as being buried in the Glenda Cemetery with the info shown below. Based on the info below, he appears to have a headstone. I have tried every possible search I could think of and I still cannot find a death certificate for him. I thought maybe somehow he was missed in the index, so I ordered a death certificate for him from the State of MO twice. My requests came back empty. Does anyone have any information on Charles Robert Burgess's death and where a death certificate might be found?
