    1. [MOSTFRAN] MO Military Lists from ten 19th Cent. wars
    2. Tom Caulley
    3. I've been creating  web sites again.  Today's contribution is a new MISSOURI  MILITARY LISTS http://www.caulleyscorner.com/MissouriMilitaryLists/  where I've compiled rosters of Missourians who served in MISSOURI UNITS during the following wars: (This site is search-able) (There are over 30,000 names) War of 1812,  Black Hawk's War 1832,  Heatherly War ca 1836/7, Osage War 1837, Mormon War. 1838, Seminole Wars 1836-1837, Iowa War (Honey War) Late 1830s, Mexican War 1846 - 1848, Southwest Expedition 1846-1865, Spanish American War 1898 Lists for the Civil War will be added as I complete each regiment.  This WILL take some time as there are over 300 units. Enjoy and Good Hunting! Tom Caulley

    1. Re: [MOSTFRAN] [MOSTEGEN] HISTORY OF SOUTHEAT MISSOURI
    2. Thank you for the links! The University of Missouri Digital Heritage Project has many historic books now. One nice thing is being able to download them as original images or as OCR-translated text (either is searchable but the text version tends to produce fewer falst hits caused by OCR software). http://digital.library.umsystem.edu/ Particularly useful is the Missouriana Collection, here: http://digital.library.umsystem.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?page=home;c=umlib I do like the search engine, which will allow proximity searches, boolean searches, and simple searches. Allows for a more refined set of results. -----Original Message----- >From: Tom Caulley <tcaulleysgenmail@yahoo.com> >Sent: Jul 27, 2010 8:32 PM >To: Cape Girardeau Cape Girardeau <MOCAPEGI@rootsweb.com>, Crawford Co Crawford Co <MOCRAWFO@rootsweb.com>, Iron Co MO <MOIRON@rootsweb.com>, Reynolds Co MO <MOREYNOL@rootsweb.com>, "St. Francois County" <MOSTFRAN@rootsweb.com>, "St. genevieve St. Genevieve" <MOSTEGEN@rootsweb.com>, "St. Louis St. Louis" <STLOUIS-MO@rootsweb.com>, Washington Co MO <MOWASHIN@rootsweb.com> >Subject: [MOSTEGEN] HISTORY OF SOUTHEAT MISSOURI > >I just found that THE HISTORY OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI is available for free on the internet at > >http://books.google.com/books?id=G-AlAAAAMAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=inauthor:Robert+inauthor:Sidney+inauthor:Douglass&hl=en&ei=j3lPTNXpHcL98Ab8i6m7AQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CC8Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false > >It is searchable > >Tom Caulley > >------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > >Check my genealogy web pages at: > >http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~caulleyfamilyinfo/MAINGEN.HTML (Links to my family tree, and 12 descendants' charts. > >http://www.caulleyscorner.com/LawrenceCoOH/ Lawrence Co. 2. Tom Caulley
    3. I just a web page covering the Notes of the Missouri Provost Marshall, 1861-1866 which has Iron County as the Location.  Many listed here are are from Iron, but others are from the surrounding counties in Missouri. To search this page for individuals use the "CTRL" button and "F" together, then enter the surnames of the individual of interest.  Each name may appear many times on the page, so keep doing this until your search has reached the end of the page.  Don't forget to try all spelling variations. Here's the URL http://www.caulleyscorner.com/IronCoMo/CWProvostMarshallsPapers.txt Enjoy and good hunting! 3. And I live in Arcadia, CA, and yes I was once in Arcadia, MO, and the biggest library near me is the Los Angeles City Library.  Driving 20 miles and terrible parking is just part of the problem, as the library does not believe that Missouri and especailly certain Mo counties do not exist!!!!!  I have dreaded even thinking about going by bus and the walking due to a very bad knee and the unsafe conditions for that kind of traveling.   A big LDS Library is 35-40 miles from me and is not open all the time.  Again the driving is far worse than the above one.  Once I drove there and found they had changed their days and hours and were closed.  Parking was fine then.  But the driving!!!!   There is a yearly jamborbee that is very costly to enter and very costly to park and a long way to drive to.  There sometime is a person sitting at the Mo desk, but there is nothing to look at or no way to ask questions.  It is just a desk.  Waste of good money to attend.   Thank you ever so much,   Alanna --- On Mon, 7/12/10, Mary Ann Klemundt <maryannklemundt@verizon.net> wrote:   Tom, Thank you, thank you!  This just good enough to express how much you have helped those of us that kan't get to Missouri for research!  We live in Yucca Valley, California, a hight desert community above Palm Springs.  If we use the Family History Center up here we order films, wait 3 to 4 weeks and only get 2 weeks to view.  I have already found death certs for 4 of my ancesters.    Mary Ann Klemundt    Yucca Valley, CA    760-309-8871

    3. Hi John,   How does one contact that great St Francois Co gen group's site???   And that Boone fellow, he had some compadres whose name was Walker.  Well, my Charles Walker is suppose to be related to them.  The Walker Mill near Taylorsville, NC was his mill.  His daughter Sarah Walker was friends with the Boone clan.  Boone had a hunting cabin near there and near the Land Cem.  With the invasion into that area currently, the cabin is probably gone now.  I did get to see it.   A Walker from Wayne was the first husband of my Nancy Conwy/Conway Walker Callahan who was one of my g grandmother's.  He died 6 mo after the marriage and left a son, who I know about but do not research.  This son was in St Francois Co.   Descendents of Charles Walker were in St Francois Co and Iron Co.  People who married into this family were in Shannon Co, Wayne Co, Madison Co.  Maybe Reynolds.   Alanna --- On Sun, 7/11/10, John O. 3. Tom: You certainly deserve a hearty thanks! This is new to me, but I'll be checking it more later. May I suggest... Wash. Co.- did not find their excellent tombstone site, via MOGENWEB. It's the best I've ever found. St. Francois Co.- their gen. group has developed a full, well documented and most useful site. Try the 10K obits! St. Charles - an excellent group, publish a good mag, etc. Old state capital, home to my people who wandered in with that Boone fellow. Need to develop. Will contact you later, working on a big project. Again, thanks and good luck Regards, John O. 3. Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions on saving images from Ancestry.com. My computer won't right-click and save the images on Ancestry. I finally downloaded SnagIt (thanks for the link, Ed Mackley!) and I'm finally managing to save images.
