    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, MO., Fri., Nov. 26, 1948. MRS. J. W. WATTS SERIOUSLY INJURED. Mrs. J. W. Watts, wife of Mayor Watts of Flat River, was seriously injured in an automobile accident last Sunday evening, and Mr. Watts' cousin, Mrs. Flora Dean, suffered a broken nose and painful cuts. Both are in Bonne Terre Hospital. Mrs. Watts' injuries consist of a fractured left leg below the knee, three fractured ribs on the left side, a fractured right shoulder, fractured left arm at the wrist and numerous cuts and bruises. The accident happened near the highway junction at Fredericktown. The three were returning from a visit in Fredericktown and had attended church services there. Just after driving onto highway 61 they met a car driven by Denver Tucker, 19-year old Fredericktown youth, and the two cars met headon. Tucker suffered a fractured skull and was a patient in the Ironton Hospital until Wednesday. Mr. Watts escaped with minor bruises and their daughter, Miss Helen Watts, who was with them, received a fracture of the little finger on the left hand.

    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, MO., Friday, November 26, 1948. DOE RUN MAN IS SUICIDE VICTIM. John M. Brann was found dead at his home in Doe Run on Sunday, November 21, with a gunshot wound in the head. He had apparently shot himself with a 12 gauge shotgun. He was 79 years of age. An inquest was held at 2 p.m. on Monday by Coroner Berl J. Miller, at the Miller Funeral Home, where a verdict of suicide was returned. Relatives and friends have stated that he had been ill and despondent for a long while. Funeral services were held at the Miller Chapel at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, with services by Jehovah's Witnesses. Interment was in the Glenda Cemetery, northeast of Farmington. Mr. Brann had never married, and his only close surviving relative is a sister, Mrs. Frank Counts, with whom he lived.

    1. [MOSTFRAN] Stanley Nash Ends Life With Shotgun (1948)

    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, Missouri, Friday, Nov. 26, 1948. STANLEY NASH ENDS LIFE WITH SHOTGUN. Stanley Nash, 36-year-old Bonne Terre man, shot and killed himself in the garage at his home at five o'clock, Monday morning, November 22. He had several times recently threatened to take his life, and on Monday, soon after arising, he told his wife that he was going to the garage, which he did. Shortly afterward she heard a shot and called a neighbor who went with her to the garage, where they found him dead from a shot from a .410 gauge shotgun. He was an employee of St. Joseph Lead Co. The body was removed to the Benham Funeral Home where Coroner Berl J. Miller conducted an inquest at 11 a.m. The verdict was that the deceased came to his death as the result of suicide. Stanley Jackson Nash, son of the late Stonewall Jackson Nash, and Mrs. Mary E. Nash of Bonne Terre Route One, was born on Nov. 20, 1912 in St. Francois County, Mo., and died at his home in Bonne Terre, Monday, November 22, at the age of 36 years, 2 days. He was married to Mrs. Marie Ratley McCormick and to this union three children were born: Larry, Dionne and Patricia. Besides his wife, children and mother, he leaves a step-son, Chester McCormick, two brothers, Wilfert of Route One and Robert of St. Louis, and two sisters, Mrs. Bert (Gladine) Coleman and Miss Alpha Nash of St. Louis. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Bonne Terre, conducted by Rev. Ernest Towler and burial was in the St. Francois Memorial Park, Benham Service.

    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, Mo., Friday, Dec. 31, 1943. NETTLETON A. MERRITT. Funeral services for Nettleton A. Merritt, long time resident of St. Francois County, were held at the Russell Chapel Methodist church three and one-half miles east of Cantwell Wednesday, December 29 at 2 p.m. During the service Harvey Ramsey and Miss Georgia Wood sang three hymns, "Jesus Blessed Jesus," "The Last Mile of the Way," and "No Disappointment in Heaven." They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Homer Inman. Rev. C. W. Griffin, pastor of the Desloge Methodist Church, read the scriptures and offered prayer. Rev. E. Clay Polk, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Campbell [Cantwell?], Mo., delivered the sermon. Interment was in the Russell Chapel Cemetery. C. Z. Boyer Service. Nettleton Abraham Merritt, son of the late John and Susan Shelley Merritt, was born east of Cantwell, June 22, 1864, and passed away at Cantwell, Dec. 27, 1943 age 79 years 6 months 5 days. Mr. Merritt spent his entire life in the community where he was born and reared. For the past 44 years, he made his home with the F. B. Conway family to which he was related. The many friends of the family extend their deep sympathy.

    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, MO, Friday, Nov. 12, 1943. JOHN H. LOVVORN. John Henry Lovvorn was born in Iron County, Missouri on May 2, 1861, and died at his home at Stono, between Doe Run and Iron Mountain at 1:40 a.m., Saturday, November 6, 1943, aged 82 years 6 months 4 days. He was a son of the late John Henry and Louise Weiss Lovvorn. His wife preceded him in death on November 14, 1928. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Walter Lacey and Miss Mary Lovvorn, both of Stono, and two brothers, C. T. Lovvorn of Granite City, Ill., and U. G. Lovvorn of Elvins, also several grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Lacy, conducted by Rev. J. W. Thomas, pastor of the Doe Run Methodist Church. Interment was in the Doe Run Cemetery. Cozean Service.

    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, MO., Friday, Sept. 10, 1943. PRESS MERRITT INJURED IN FALL FROM TRUCK. Press Merritt of DeLassus, who was seriously injured two weeks ago when he fell from a truck while loading hay on the Ray Larkin farm near Esther, is in Bonne Terre Hospital. He is suffering from a skull fracture and internal injuries and will probably be confined to the hospital for several weeks.

Michael Mucho, son of the late Michael and Anna Mucho, was born in Austria Hungary on August 8, 1870, and passed away at his home in Bonne Terre on July 2, 1943 at the age of 72 years 9 months 24 days. Funeral services were held at 9:00 o'clock Monday morning, July 5, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bonne Terre, conducted by Rev. G. W. Brinkmann. Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery under the direction of the Benham Undertaking Company. Mr. Mucho was preceded in death by his wife in 1916 and also one child. He is survived by six children, John, Michael, Steve, Mary, Susan and Verna, other relatives and friends.

Pope in Flat River, Friday, July 2, 1943, after an illness of two years. He was 63 years 10 days of age. Funeral services were held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Free Will Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Jas. F. Miller. Interment was in the Revelle Cemetery at Fredericktown. Hood Service. He is survived by a daughter, Allene, a nurse serving in the U. S. Navy; three brother, J. W. and W. R. Pope of Flat River, and R. N. Pope of Crystal City, and two sisters, Ada (Mrs. John) Montgomery of St. Louis and Anna (Mrs. Lewis) Skaggs of Fredericktown, other relatives and friends.

    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, St. Francois County, Mo., Friday, July 2, 1943. Flat River News. Miss Georgia Laird of Denver, Colo., arrived Tuesday to spend two weeks with her father, J. C. Laird and other relatives. On Tuesday evening a farewell party was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Alexander in Elvins in honor of their brother, Jack Laird, who left Wednesday for Jefferson Barracks to be inducted into the U. S. Army. Members of the family present were Miss Georgia Laird, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Laird of Leadington, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Laird and daughter, Joan and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Howelett and children, Ronnie and Darlene, Mrs. George Webb and Mrs. Elgin Clay and Daughter, Jeanette of Flat River; Mr. and Mrs. Murrill Laird and sons, Jerry and Tommy of Iron Mountain and Mrs. Corbin Buxton of Bonne Terre. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served. Jack received several nice gifts. Jack's brother, Richard Laird, serving with the U. S. Navy as Hospital apprentice, is now stationed on Guadalcanal.

    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, Missouri Friday, July 2, 1943. FLAT RIVER NEWS. Harlan Marler, Seaman Second Class, who enlisted in the U. S. Navy March 12th and has just completed boot training at the U. S. Naval Training Station, Farragut, Idaho, enjoyed a 10-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Alice Mouser of St. Francois, and his brother, Farrell Wayne Marler, other relatives and friends. He left Friday and was accompanied by his mother to St. Louis where she visited her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Redfern and two sons, John Dale and Larry Gene, and another son, Willis Marler. Willis was until recently in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in March, after spending seven weeks in a hosptial for treatment for stomach trouble.

    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, St. Francois County, Missouri, Wednesday, August 19, 1964. MRS. CARL THOMAS. Mrs. Carl (Nadine Loraine) Thomas of Bonne Terre passed away at her home at 210 W. Johnson St., on August 13, 1964, at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 29 days. A daughter of the late Milton Grundy Poston and Mary M. (Mahn) Poston, she was born December 15, 1896, at East Bonne Terre. She leaves her husband, Arthur Carl Thomas of Bonne Terre; two children, Mrs. Henry (Wanda) Barron of Esther and Roland Seals of Bonne Terre; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and a sister, Edda Dawson of Granite City, Ill. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. The body lay in state at Sparks Funeral Home in Bonne Terre until Sunday, August 16, when services were conducted in the chapel at 2 p.m. by Rev. J. O. Craig, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church. Interment was in the Bonne Terre Cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of Sparks Funeral Home, Bonne Terre. [Note: Her husband, Authur (Author) Carl Thomas was son of Edward & Nancy (Hurst) Thomas of Bonne Terre, Missouri.]
