    3. Does anyone know anything about a house on Trap Rd., in the Cadet area, that was owned by a Jackson family & burned down?  Later a Cresswell family built a house there & it burned too.  Sorry I don't have an approximate year for the events.   Also I'm unable to find Trap Rd. on Mapquest or Yahoo maps.  Any help anyone could offer will be appreciated.  Thanks!     Esther M. 1. [MOSTFRAN] Bismarck Railroad Depot

    3. Bismarck depot will set the scene for Christmas tree lighting Nov. 27, 2010. A railroad town rallies to save a piece of history By CHRIS CLINE Daily Journal Staff Writer, Published Nov. 21, 2010. BISMARCK — In 2003 the City of Bismarck purchased the depot from Union Pacific. The city paid a small sum for the town’s centerpiece, but the work to restore the old building to its heyday form would be daunting. To spearhead the restoration effort the city formed the Bismarck Depot Preservation Committee. Over the past seven years the committee has worked tirelessly to turn back the clock on the depot. Liz Bennett has served as president of the committee since it was formed. Bennett’s father retired from the railroad and her brother is an engineer with Union Pacific. “It’s in my family history,” she said. “My Dad started as a water boy and retired as an engineer. If you had to pick one thing to represent Bismarck it would be the railroad depot.” Bennett said after reviewing the blueprints for the depot it was discovered it was a cookie cutter design. She said Union Pacific, formerly Missouri Pacific, went around towns in the Midwest building depots very similar to Bismarck’s. Bennett said depending on the size of the town there may have been minor modifications. “At the time the city bought it, everybody in town was concerned it would fall down or be vandalized to the point it would have to be torn down,” she said. “Bismarck is a railroad town. The depot represents our history and our community. Our troops during World War II and Vietnam got on the train here. It’s such a large part of who we are.” The first order of business for the committee would be replacing the roof on the depot. Bennett said the committee held bake sales and other fundraisers to raise money for the new roof. She said the committee had enough money for half a roof. “Gibson Quality Roofing agreed to go ahead and do half a roof,” Bennett said. “But then once the guys started working, more local people started donating. I would have people stop me at the post office and hand me money. We ended up getting enough money to go ahead and put the entire roof on.” The committee then got a matching grant to pay for the architectural drawings of the depot. The city applied for a Transportation Enhancement Grant through the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). The grant was for $145,125. Under the grant guidelines, Bismarck had to contribute $40,000 and the Depot Committee had to contribute $10,000 from the grant it received from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The total amount for the grant with the local contribution is $195,125. The grant paid for outside renovations to the depot and a new brick wall retaining wall. “It was former Mayor Dennis Mayberry who had the vision to replace the rock wall,” Bennett said. “It turned out so nice. When I was a kid I remember people sitting on the wall watching the trains go by.” The project incorporates sidewalk renovation on East Main Street to allow handicap accessibility for pedestrian and cyclist traffic. The major portion of the project consists of the renovation of the outside of the old depot. The building is currently being painted traditional MO PAC colors. A stage sits on one end of the depot that can be used for various events. Bennett said the committee is selling another round of memorial pavers to help fund renovation work to the inside of the depot. Order forms are available at city hall. A 4x8 brick cost $55 and an 8x8 brick costs $100. “We hope to complete phase one of the interior work with the proceeds from the paver sale,” she said. The first official event held at the depot will be the Bismarck Chamber of Commerce Christmas tree lighting on Nov. 27. The event begins at 6 p.m. The Bismarck High School Choir will perform and Santa Claus will make a special appearance. Refreshments will be available.

    3. Joyce, You are so right. Newspapers are not always accurate. Sometimes it's because of typos and often they were just given wrong information by the funeral homes. In the old days, before faxes, the obits were called in to the newspaper by the funeral homes so sometimes the information was just misunderstood by the person at the newspaper listening to the information over the phone. Also, names were not always spelled out so if it was a name with various spellings what turns up on the obit may not be what is on the birth or death certificate. Obituaries are, however, a good source of "leads" which is why we post them. In other words, on the obits we post - what you see is what you get! LOL! 3. That reminds me of the two obits that I got last week from cousin Virginia Brown. These obits were for JOHNSON S. "Jonce" NASH. The Lead Belt News had him listed as JOHNSON NASH born in Shannon County, on December 21, 1847, the other as JACKSON NASH born in Saline County, born December 21, 1848. These two obits could not have been any further off on the true information, and if you were not a family member, you would never had known that they were for the same man. Johnson was actually born Decemeber 21, 1852, as per Family and Census Records. Goes to show your really have to check and double check information. I do not know what the second Newspaper was, but who every they got their information from was really off on this family. Joyce Nash-Wafford ----- Original Message ----- From: "B. Scott Jones, of Bonne Terre, received very serious injuries New Year's Eve night when abducted, probably by bandits, who took his money. Mr. Meecey, who is employed in a bank in San Antonio, Texas, was celebrating at his home with his wife and children and some friends. He went to a nearby drug store for some fireworks and did not return. Early the next morning, he was found unconscious three miles out of the city by the side of the road. He had been run over by a car and was so disfigured as to be almost beyond recognition. He was taken to a hospital where he was found to be suffering from a skull fracture, a broken leg, and many lacerations on the face and lips. Two teeth had been knocked out. Mr. Meecey formerly lived in Bonne Terre and was an employee of the Lead Belt Bank there. His condition, though somewhat improved, is still serious.

    3. Bettye, I goofed on this death year. It was 1932, actually December 29. So sorry for the mix-up, the other date was in notes that had been sent to me by family members. After a couple of emails yesterday, one telling me that the DC was online, I changed my information. Any help with this family will be appreciated. We have so many NASH Family members in and around Bonne Terre and St. Francois County, around that time, I am just trying to find the exact connection to my Family Line. Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving, Good to see you back online. Hugs, Joyce ----- Original Message ----- From: "B. 2. B. Warner
    3. The Lead Belt News, Flat River, MO., January 18, 1933. FORMER BONNE TERRE BOY INJURED IN TEXAS. Leonard Meecey, son of Mrs. I.

    1. [MOSTFRAN] STANLEY JACKSON NASH
    2. Joyce D Wafford
    3. Good Morning Bettye, and Everyone on the List, I meant to ask last night about Stanley Jackson Nash. I have Stanley's parents listed as STONEWALL JACKSON "JACK" NASH born 1871, in Missouri, and MARY ELIZABETH (SMITH) NASH. My mystery is that I cannot find out who Stanley's Grandparents are on the NASH Side. I have many "Could Be s", but no proof. It is a well known fact that STONEWALL (Stanley's father) also committed suicide in 1936. Can Anyone out there help with this NASH Mystery, Just another in a Long Line.............Are there and Grandchildren of STANLEY, or siblings GOLDINE (Nash) Coleman or WILFERT NASH out there, who may be able to help? Please email me off of the List, so we do not slow it down. You can do so at: ograndma1@sbcglobal.net Hope Everyone has a Wonderful Thanksgiving. STANLEY NASH ENDS LIFE WITH SHOTGUN. Stanley Nash, 36-year-old Bonne Terre man, shot and killed himself in the garage at his home at five o'clock, Monday morning, November 22. He had several times recently threatened to take his life, and on Monday, soon after arising, he told his wife that he was going to the garage, which he did. Shortly afterward she heard a shot and called a neighbor who went with her to the garage, where they found him dead from a shot from a .410 gauge shotgun. He was an employee of St. Joseph Lead Co. The body was removed to the Benham Funeral Home where Coroner Berl J. Miller conducted an inquest at 11 a.m. The verdict was that the deceased came to his death as the result of suicide. Stanley Jackson Nash, son of the late Stonewall Jackson Nash, and Mrs. Mary E. Nash of Bonne Terre Route One, was born on Nov. 20, 1912 in St. Francois County, Mo., and died at his home in Bonne Terre, Monday, November 22, at the age of 36 years, 2 days. He was married to Mrs. Marie Ratley McCormick and to this union three children were born: Larry, Dionne and Patricia. Besides his wife, children and mother, he leaves a step-son, Chester McCormick, two brothers, Wilfert of Route One and Robert of St. Louis, and two sisters, Mrs. Bert (Gladine) Coleman and Miss Alpha Nash of St. Louis. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Bonne Terre, conducted by Rev. Ernest Towler and burial was in the St. Francois Memorial Park, Benham Service. ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Sat, 20 Nov 2010 09:03:42 -0600 From: "B.
