You all might know this already, I have a copy of the St. Louis Gen. Society 1850 Ste. Gen Census (pub. 1991). This is printed in the begining of the index book: The 1850 population of Ste. Genevieve was 5,294 persons, including slaves. The Assistant Marshall's count was 4,636 free persons and 447 slaves. Our computer count is 4,695 free persons and 599 slaves. See County History for official count. The 1850 Federal Census for Ste. Genevieve was originally published by Mrs. Elizabeth Prather Ellsberry about 20 years ago. A statewide 1850 census index composed of heads of households was published by Accelerated Indexing in 1976. Both publications was often undecipherable. In an effort to perfect this compilation several publications on Ste. Genevieve were consulted for name comparisons. These were: Marriage Records of Ste. Genevieve County, Book A, by Mrs. Howard W. Woodruff, 1970. Fifth Census of the U.S., 1830 Ste. Genevieve County, by Mary Rozier Sharp & Louis J. Sharp III, 1985. Missouri Census of 1840, Ste. Genevieve, by Frances Nelson & Gwen Brouse, 1976. 1860 Federal Census for Ste. Genevieve County, by Elizabeth Prather Ellsberry, undated. 1870 Federal Census of Ste. Genevieve County, by Bob & Ethel White and Francis Cash, 1987. Ste. Genevieve County Tombstone Inscriptions, 3 Volumes by Genealogical Text (A/K/A Rob Beckerman), 1984, 1986. There are some more books floating around out there! If someone knows these transcribers or families and has copies...maybe we can get permission to reprint again?
