Ste. Genevieve Herald Ste. Genevieve, Mo. Saturday, Nov. 11, 1882 Union township don't kiss the boot yet it gave a handsome majority for the Independent ticket. Judge FOX is conducting the business of the Court in his own dignified, businesslike and expeditious style. Henry LUECKE and Eph. GOSS have formed a partnership and will conduct the blacksmithing business at the old stand. Henry SEXAUER will sell all his personal property, at present on his place (ROTH's Mill on the River aux Vases), to the highest bidder at public auction, to be held on Nov. 20, 1882. The description of the property is to be seen on the poster. Staabtown is comparitively a new place, but it's citizens stood to their post like veterans on election day. Everybody seemed to come there with a set purpose and but little electioneering was done. This is the way we would have it. Let every man do his own electioneering, and corruption in politics will disappear. DO TELL! Defeat has made Charlie [BURKS] concientious. he goes about the streets declaring that he would rather be defeated than accept the office of collector on the terms by which Mr. ZIEGLER won it. How true it is that As long as the lamp continues to burn, The vilest sinner may return.

Ste. Genevieve Herald Ste. Genevieve, Mo. Saturday, Oct 28, 1882 The other day Louis MAURICE's daughter out at the mines wanted a drink, and, taking up a cup, which she thought was half filled with water, she filled it from the water-pail and drank the contents down. A few hours afterwards she was a corpse; the cup had contained a solution of concentrated lye. Mr. H.S. SHAW said at VANSICKLES' sale that Charley KLEIN and Hy. JOKERST were no Democrats but Republicans and as such voted at the Primaries and set their names to an affidavit. We presume the two men will be able to answer that charge to everybody's satisfaction. PUBLIC SPEAKING Hon. Firmin A. ROZIER, Henry S. SHAW and others, will address the citizens of Ste. Genevieve county, on Sunday Nov. 5th, 1882, at St. Joseph's church. Best refreshments will be kept on hand. Come one, come all. Chas. OBERMUELLER

Ste. Genevieve Herald, Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, Saturday, March 13, 1886. ST. MARY'S ITEMS. [BY OLIVER TWIST] Hard work commencing again for the farmers. The Maroons are talking of getting up a minstrel. We are told that our newspaper will start soon. Large stock of clothing received at Jules Rozier 's store. Mrs. Nothhelfer left for Ste. Genevieve, last Saturday. Two marriages occurred last Monday at the Catholic church. Martin Rond made a business trip to Perryville last Sunday. We hear that the Perryville boys are talking baseball already. We learn that the ball given by the Mistletoe Club was a grand affair. William Cambron, Jr. left for St. Louis per steamer E. C. Elliott last Sunday. Andrew Siebert and Ferd. Binner attended the ball at New Bremen, last Monday. We notice that Charles Quinette (?), formerly a clerk on the Elliott, is now employed on the Nisbet. Messrs. Rubian and John Fains and Miss Emma Fains, of Texarcanna, are visiting relatives in town. Married, on Monday morning, at the Catholic church, by Rev. Father Kane, Mr. Giesler and Miss Neberry. Miss Ella Lynn who has been teaching the colored school of town, returned to her home at Sparta, Ill., last Monday. George Lalumendiere, who has been in Silver Lake for some time, teaching music, has secured a situation in St. Louis. It appears as though winter is reluctant to yield to the more genial season - spring. It snowed all day Sunday, but barely covered the ground. The ball given by the members of the Maroon B.C.C. was well attended. A good supper was served about 11 o'clock and the dancing continued about an hour and a half later. Lent commenced last Wednesday. No more balls now, for a while. The young people have had plenty of indulgence in that amusement, and can very easily "lay over" for a period. Messrs. Edward Schaaf and Jules Rozier, together with Misses Esther Nethercott, Mary Schaaf, and Cora Rozier, all of our town, went to Ste. Genevieve last Monday to attend the hop given by the Mistletoe Club. We mentioned something about a little [?] hog of Sam Haynes, the other week, and now we have a sheep that we call somewhat "large-ish". It was shipped to St. Louis by George Cissell and weighed 250 pounds. The love of colored folks for dancing is illustrated by the conduct of the fiddlers at the Maroon dance. After playing hard until after midnight they rode six miles to a colored ball and danced until half-past 7 the next morning. Vincent Smith and Miss Emma Layton, living in the vicinity of town, were married last Monday at the Catholic church about 4 p.m. After the ceremony, the happy couple and invited guests repaired to the home of the groom, and, after partaking of a splendid supper, enjoyed themselves in the popular amusement of "tripping the light fantastic."
Ste. Genevieve Herald Ste. Genevieve, Mo. Saturday, Oct. 21, 1882 ST. MARY ITEMS Last week Louis NAUMANN arrested here four young fellows, who were required to give bond for their appearance before Squire LAYTON on Saturday next. They had disturbed the rest of two women. One of them is said to have disappeared since. The two women have also moved away to an island between here and Chester. As a consequence Squire LAYTON will find it difficult to make his costs. Wm. SOLF was obliged to pass Sunday night in jail because he tried to break Alex LUNSFORD's head. Rumor goes that ZIEGLER will get the majority of votes in St. Mary at the coming election.
Ste. Genevieve Herald Ste. Genevieve, Mo. Saturday, Oct. 21, 1882 DIED: On Oct. 17th, of diptherie, Louise Annie, infant child of Peter and Katherine FALLER, aged 10 months and 28 days.
Ste. Genevieve Herald Ste. Genevieve, Mo. Saturday, Oct. 21, 1882 Two couples were married this week, Wm. LEHR and EMMA BRAUN and Chas. RHEAM and Mary BASLER. Many thanks Mary for the fine piece of cake. The boys especially thank the lovely messenger who brought it. We wish all joy and happiness.
Ste. Genevieve Herald Ste. Genevieve, Mo. Saturday, Oct. 21, 1882 Jacob MEDER will sell his farm near Punjab (120 acres, 53 cleared, with cistern and well) and stock for $800. Chas. ROY's trial for perjury at Perryville was postponed until next May Term of Court, on the account of the absence of some of the witnesses. CHARLES C. ROZIER RESIGNED On last Wednesday, Oct. 18, Mr. C.C. ROZIER sent in his resignation as a member of the Democratic County Central Committee, to take effect from and after that date. "Democrat" in the F.P. holds that ZIEGLER who has performed the duties of Collector for the last two years is not entitled to the salary of the office, but that it belongs to Mr. LeCOMPTE who has done more of it's duties but has been engaged in his own business. This doctrine has the merit of novelty at least. We wonder what Mr. LeCOMPTE thinks of this. With regard to the charges by Burksmen against ZIEGLER at St. Mary, that he failed to collect from several persons in the county, we have to say that iti is all bosh. Mr. ZIEGLER collected all taxes that were legally assessed against Mr. ROZIER, Mrs. VALLE, Mr. ST. GEM. Everybody knows that Mr. ZIEGLER cannot collect taxes on the Iron Mountain Stock that is yet in Court and undecided, and on bonds that were decided by the Court not to be assessable. Whoever does not believe these statements, will please step up to the Court House and see for himself. Mr. ST. GEM has paid his taxes, of which Mr. C.C. ROZIER, Mr. GUIGNON and others are witnesses. Mr. ZIEGLER cannot be blamed here at all, as he could do nothing but put the names of the above people on the delinquent list because they refused to pay and tried the case in court.

Ste. Genevieve Herald, Ste. Genevieve, Misouri, Saturday, March 13, 1886. ZELL JOTTINGS. [BY DON CARLOS.] March 1, 1886. William Roth went to St. Louis last week; he returned Saturday. Charles Schille has again bought a number of milk cows and intends to take them to St. Louis this week. Hy. [Henry/Harry] Fallert, step-son of Bern.[Bernard] Schmelzle, who has been suffering with the rheumatism for the last two months, is again at work. In a recent issue the HERALD requested its readers to send in, from all parts of the county, reports on the condition of the wheat crop. Most farmers in this neighborhood, whom I have interviewed on the mattter, give it as their opinion that fully a quarter of the crop has been destroyed by the frost. So much is certain that, even if the weather be favorable, a full harvest cannot be expected. Clover seems to have suffered but little, but peaches and cherries will be few or none.
Ste. Genevieve Herald, Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, Saturday, March 13, 1886. FROM BLOOMSDALE. KINDNESS. March 10, 1886. March is proving itself by the weather. John Drury and sons have completed 400 yards of levy. DIED: --On Monday, March 8, infant son of John C. Drury. The Farmington stock traders are making times lively in our vicinity. Our friend Mr. Morris has bought sheep and cattle for over $500. They altogether left over $1,000 of their cash.
Ste. Genevieve Herald, Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, Sat., March 13, 1886. NEW BREMEN BREVITIES. [By One of Them] Oat sowing will soon begin. We are glad to hear that Dr. Byrne is convalescing. John Dallas' sale last Saturday was well attended and articles of sale brought good prices. Our jovial Sheriff, Leon Jokerst, was at the sale last Saturday and we had the chance of a hearty shake with him and some other old friends. Henry Roth had a chopping frolic last Monday; the choppers had a grand old time during the day and, after supper, the young folks had a general hop. Henry knows how to set them up. Call again, Henry. The report goes that our friend Peter Rigdon and his brother-in-law, Thomure, caught two surprisingly large fishes in the mill pond one day last week. The two specimens of the finny tribe tried to swim across the pond, but mired when they came near the bank and Mr. Rigdon, hearing them splash and flounder in the water, brought his wagon and pulled them out. One of them weighed about 120 pounds and the other about 160. Odd fish!
