Since the Y chromosome is only found in the male population it can only be passed down father to son. The YDNA project is only applicable to the male. The Family Finder DNA test can be taken by males and females. I recommend it for females especially. It is not tied to any surname. It just compares your DNA to everyone in the database and gives your matches and your ethnicity. It will tell you if your match is on your paternal side or your maternal side. Sad to say I have only minimal scientific abilities. You mentioned that the Family Finder would tell you whether it is a mother or father match. How do I find that information? Thanks for your input.
