Author: catlady831 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.moses/1021.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Mary, That's right- we have communicated before- years ago! I replied to the wrong part of the email- the only mystery on our line is the Tallent connection, and the fact that we don't match the John Moses line- so odd that there would be two unrelated Moses families in that very sparsely settled part of NC. The interesting things and mysteries are for the descendant of Walter Moses, because that line is very complicated. When we found our DNA match, Billie and I tried to find our common ancestor. We knew it was someone born before 1800, because out families never lived in the same state after about 1810. That Barbara Moses Jones was married to Hosea Jones who was the brother of Jeanette Jones. (wife of my David Moses b. 1802) We think David Lafayette Moses and Barbara were siblings with Walter Moses and Rachel Moses _______ (I am drawing a blank on her last name right now) That TN branch of the family was always such a tangle because David Lafayette's family was often mixed in w! ith the family of Samuel Moses, who we don't match (Samuel was part of that other Moses family) There was a John Moses and Calvin Moses in various papers, and Billie found something that led her to believe that they were the same person- John Calvin Moses, who may have been a brother to your Jessee and my David. That John was the right age, did live in NC and did come to TN. Since the courthouse in NC burned twice, we never could find much of a paper trail, but it seemed very reasonable and logical based on what we could find. I would love to be able to prove our common ancestor. I am not sure what Billie is doing these days- I haven't heard from her in a long time and hope she is okay. I hope she sees this- I know she would be glad to find someone else on her line. I think that Tallent match may explain why we don't match the other Moses family and why no one has ever found the mythical Ezekiel Moses. I think it is possible that the father of my David and your Jessee, David Moses b. 1765 might have been the son of a Moses mother and a Tallent father. There is a 1763 tax census that shows one of the Tallents either living in the house of or right next door to the family of John Moses, and John had a couple of daughters the right age. That family tree referenced above was posted by a woman named Billie, who descends from Barbara Moses Jones, who is believed to be the sister of David Lafayette Moses. Billie paid for a descendant of David L. to test, and her line matched my line perfectly. (we also matched the Tallent family perfectly, even with the test markers extended) I descend from David Moses b. 1802 m. to Jeanette Jones. My family lived in Anson/Burke counties as well. I would love to email with you more, as we found some interesting things as well as some mysteries. I would love to straighten out that tree. Hi all, I would like to test my theory that the Henry Moses who was born in Virginia and ended up in Giles County, Tennessee is descended from my Moses line (Johann Adam Moses and Maria Catherina Mueller). The Henry Moses I am referring to married Sarah Davenport and later Nancy Gulliam. I would like to find a male born to the surname Moses who descends from this line (either wife) who would be willing to participate in the Moses Y-DNA project. If you know somebody who fits the criteria and is willing to participate, please let me know privately. -- Thanks & Happy July 4th holiday, Mary D. Taffet List Admin for MOSES [email protected]
