In 1840 he and his parents were living in Monroe/Polk Co. TN. I have done a YDNA test on his line and found that his line matches none of the known MOSES lines. But, he is a 67 marker exact match to the TALLENT line. SAMUEL MOSES was in Monroe Co. in 1830. I'm beginning to believe that my MOSES line is actually a female MOSES line who had children by a TALLENT. I believe that female may be a descendent of SAMUEL MOSES, but don't know his children. Can you help me out? Then I'll have to see if I can gt someone to do a female DNA Test. Any help appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I did donate my books to the Whitley County Historical Society. Any copies can be requested through them and any proceeds go to the Society. But my concentration was mostly on (1) the early history of Joshua Moses prior to his coming into Whitley County, Ky., (2) the results of the YDNA project and the Family Finder project, (3) Joshua's descendants. I did include some information on John and Samuel that I had gleaned from other researchers over the years. I credited those researchers in case someone wants to follow up with any of them. I have been taking a closer look at John these past couple of months. While I was in SC in September I stopped at the Historical Society in Cheraw (thanks to my longsuffering husband.) They did not have as much material as I had hoped, however, I did dig up one very valuable record. I already had a land record for a Robert Moses that put him on the Wateree River during the time that my Joshua was taken prisoner by the British while he was on leave during the Rev. War. In his pension statement Joshua told the clerk that 'I asked my captain for permission to go into South Carolina and whilst I was on the Wateree River I was pursued by British Dragoons and taken prisoner.' I always thought that Joshua had to have been there visiting Robert Moses. The land record that I turned up in Cheraw was a record for John Moses that put his property also on the Wateree River during that same time frame. His property was in fact adjacent to Robert's land. So now we have John Moses! and Robert Moses living next to each other on the Wateree River at the very time that Joshua Moses was taken prisoner by the British. Too much of a coincidence not to be connected. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Many of my ancestors's first names were Eleazer--an old Biblical name dating back to the 1700s. I'm wondering if your Ezekiel might possibly be an Eleazer? It's a long shot, I'm sure, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. So I thought I'd "put it out there." Evidently, my MOSESes started out in Plymouth, MA (Mayflower people, I guess) and headed north to Essex County, particularly in Salem, MA. There, they were prominent sea captains and mariners. They married into the DRIVER clan (who arrived on these shores around 1632) and eventually into the DALTON line (1776) of which I am descended. Several of my great-g-g-g-g-grandfathers (and uncles) had the name Eleazer, the last of which was my great-great-grandfather, Eleazer Moses Dalton ("Jr.") of Salem who died in Petersburg, VA during the Civil War. This info may have nothing to do with your Ezekiel, but like I said, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Stranger occurrences and connections have occurred by random and offhand information. I do hope you find your info on your Moses line re. Ezekiel soon and I'm wishing you much luck in your exploration and research. Dorothy V. This would be your John & Nancy Moses. Also, in 1810 Morganton, Burke Co., NC there is another John Higdon listed: 1 free white male under 10; 1 free white male 10-15; 1 free white male 16-25; 1 free white male 45 & OVER; 3 free white females 10-15; 1 free white female 26-44; 1 free white female 45 & OVER. This could be John's father & family. Also on the 1800 Census there is a John B. Higdon in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC 1790 Jno. Higdon in Rutherford Co., NC. Burke & Rutherford touch each other. Burke was formed in 1777 from Rowan; Rutherford was formed in 1779 from part of Burke & Tyron & Rowan was formed in 1753 from Anson. Also I have a John Higdon marrying Martha Roper in June 1789 in Rutherford Co., NC. I hope this may be of some help on your Higdon line. That Joshua may be the Joshua Moses who is the son of the John Moses. That John had John Jr., Joshua, Samuel, and two daughters. We do not match them with DNA. Samuel moved to TN at the same time as David & Nancy's brother John, so the families get mixed up a lot in genealogies. I think that Mary who married Aaron Tallent is very interesting. I don't know what to make of her. That Aaron Tallent is found living next to our David b. 1765 in several census. I think that may be why people assumed she was David 1765's sister, but I have never found anything else about her. An older Tallent is also found next door to that John Moses. Also, while our DNA doesn't match the sons of John Moses, we do match the Tallent family very well. We also matched the family of David Lafayette Moses, so we know the Tallent connection comes in before 1800. It is possible that our David b. 1765 is the son of a Tallent father and one of the daug! hters of John Moses. It would explain why we don't match that Moses family and why no one has ever been able to find the ancestors of that David. I always thought it was so strange that in such a sparsely populated area there would be two unrelated Moses families. I would really love to get that sorted out someday. David's father is David b. 1765. I have seen some list her name as Nancy Long, but I have never seen any proof of this. It seems like I did find somewhere that her name is Nancy, but that's all I was able to confirm. There is an old family tree out there that lists David b. 1765's father as David and his grandfather as Ezekiel. I have never found any proof of this, and think it is not correct. My family participated in the Moses DNA project and found some interesting results. I explained them in the comments above. It was done through family tree DNA and included men with the Moses last name, so it is supposed to be accurate. I'd love to share information- my Moses line before 1800 is frustrating!
