Variant spellings include Mosley, Moseley, Mosely, Mozely, Mozeley. Some descendants spell their name in the variant spellings due to various reasons. Some of the Mozley descendants have a family oral history of "If it is not spelled with a 'Z", they are not related." This statement is not true, My grandfather had two brothers who spelled their last name "Mosley" and some of the descendants spell it one way, others spell it with a "Z". I know that there are lots of Mozley Desc. out there and I personally would love to hear from you. There are two lines of Mozleys here in the US as far as I can tell. My line which originated in VA in the early 1700s, and another family that came into PA in the early 1800s. Some of them ended up in or near the same areas. It would be nice to hear from anyone who thinks that they may connect to either line. There is a Mozley genforum message board. You may find some info there that leads you to your ancestor. He was supposed to have died in Winnsboro, Wood Co., TX and I think sometime between 1926 and 1929. He was the son of Miles "Pike" Mozley and Mary Ann "Missouri" Smith. Miles was the son of Isaiah Irvin Mozley and Nancy Caroline McEwen of old Campbell/Douglas Co., GA. He may have worked on the RR as some of his other brothers did. One of the cousins told me that Miles beat Charlie and he left home and never returned. I think that this would have happened when Charlie was about 17 or so. I don't know any other name that Charlie could have went by. I have other info on all the other Mozleys in this line. Charlie was named in the will of his uncle, Zachariah Taylor Mozley, in condicils dated in 1926 and 1929, but was not named in the settlement of the will in Jan 1936. I can't find him anywhere in the 1900-1930 censuses. There is also named a Montie Laverne Becker, c/o R. W. Becker, P. O. Box 102, Odessa, Tx.; (daughter of Charlene Wesley Mozley and Robert Wilber Becker, born May 3, 1931 in Ector Co., TX, Unknown relationship to the rest of these Mozleys) I suspect that Montie Lavern is the granddaughter of Charlie Mozley. The obit of Charlene Wesley Mozley Becker: Obit for Mrs. Charline Mosley Becker The Odess News-Times (The Odessa American) Friday, March 30, 1934 MRS. BECKER DIES TUESDAY MORNING Mrs. Charline Mosely Becker, 30, died in her home here, Tuesday, after a brief illness. She died early Tuesday morning and funeral services were conducted that afternoon at the First Methocist Church. Mrs. Becker was born in Milford, Ellis County, Texas, March 20, 1904. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Mattie Sevier, husband, R. W. Becker, and little daughter, Montie La Verne. I can't find Mattie Severe or Mattie Mozley (any spelling) in any census either. One of Miles' brothers lived in Maypearl, Ellis Co., TX-Isaiah "Babe" and his wife, Frances Emma Winn Mozley. There were other relatives in Ellis Co., TX also. Is there anyone out there who might have any info on Charlie Mozley and his family. He is the last of the grandchildren of Isaiah and Nancy McEwen Mozley that I need. I started researching my paternal line last fall, and after I had figured out a lot of it came across an archived message from you, I think from 2000. I surmised on my own that Mordecai Moseley was likely Malinda's father, because of the close proximity he lived to Peter and Malinda there near Ferrum, plus the name Mordecai Moseley was passed on to Peter and Malinda's first son. My own grandfather was named Moses Mordecai Young, son of Peter Young Jr and Prudence Adams-- too much of a coincidence. However, yours was the only other reference I could find that agreed with mine. I did not have the data you sent and was glad to receive it. Also, I found the reference you (I believe it was you) posted online with the service record of Peter Young Jr. Very interesting. I bet you have a lot of info on the Young line, based on what I have read in your archived messages, since you obviously have been at this a lot longer than me, and know far more about it. Neamed wife Rebecca, daus Dorcas, Martha, Anna, Ruth Sally Thornton who shall pay MALINDA YOUNG on dollar as her part. Wit: Geo Menifee , Ambrose Raines, John Lavinder, John Lavin, Jr. Information from Franklin Mouseley says that Mordecai had brothers Clemond and John and they were children of John and Sarah Mawdesley of Prince George Co., MD, and it would "be natural for these brothers to go down the valley to Surry Co." Here I was standing outside one day waving to him and he said I will talk with ya later yelling down the street and never to see him again. Wondered where he was, how he is, and his family, They were so sweet. His mother too!! Is she still around?? I know she was in a wheelchair way back then in the 70's . I am still married 26 yrs now, so you know how far this was back.. way back! The song called "ANGIE" reminded me of him, he dated a gal named Angie way long after me. ...you know first boyfriends always has a special part in your life.. Believe or not he was a gentleman, very respectful of me. I was and still am a christian.
