I have in my family tree one Ruth STICE b 06 May 1878 d 1960 interred westward cemetery (Lebanon Christian Church) southside of the road in Bible Grove, Scotland Co., MO. Ruth was first married 06 Nov 1898, I surmise, to one Robert O. BRUNER, a nephew of my paternal great-grandfather J. D. BRUNER. Robert and Ruth had a daughter Opal who may have come to take the name MCCANDLESS. Her mother Ruth married a MCCANDLESS and his information I do not have; but I wonder if he might not belong to this next note: In the 1860 U S Census, Independence Twp, Schuyler Co., MO, too, I have found M. MCCANDLESS age 32 & his Priscilla age 34, both born in Kentucky, with their children: Robert age 9, Elizabeth age 7, Louisa age 5, George age 4, Rosella age 3, and Thomas age 4 mos. Could this Robert MCCANDLESSS abovementioned (b 1850-1851) be one and the same who married the Amanda CARTER you mention below. I look at all collateral lines, information doesn't reveal itself fast enough on my direct lineage. I love this stuff and I just keep going. May I hear from you?
