Bonnie, I have a Susannah Cox who was married to a James Depew (she was widowed and lived in Scotland County with her sons around 1860. Do you have any connection with these names? I believe there is a connection to Gene's family. Dolores
Delores, I am not a direct descendant of either the Cox or Depew family. Apparently my family married into these families somewhere along the long list of extended lines of the REED, GORDY & KINNEY families. What I have is a clipping of John Depew. It reads as follows: John Depew Buried at Kilwinning Saturday John Depew who has been sick for some time, passed away at his home east of town Wednesday night at the age of 47 years, 8 months, and 21 days. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Mullinex in 1900. To this union one child was born. Mrs. Depew passed away July 3, 1901. He was a member of M.W. A. and I. O. O. F. lodges and was always a faithful member. He was a loving and devoted husband , kind and thoughtful father and son and a good neighbor. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Hubert Crawford, one grandson and one sister, Mrs. Frank Laws, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the church at Kilwinning, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. Whitacre after which the body was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Kilwinning cemetery. (From Downing Correspondent) [there is a handwritten date, Oct 1923] I have the following Cox clippings: Carl Catherine (Marlow) George W Ida Frances Lowell Clare Nicholas James If you think any of these will help I can scan them to you.
