I have done considerable research on the George Washington Forrester line. Just today I received from Barren County a copy of a will -- that of John Forrester written April 24, 1845 and proved in the May Term 1845. I was hoping for other papers which would show how the inheritance was divided and where the children were living, but no such luck. So, no proof that this is the father of George W. of Scotland County, but he seems the most likely candidate. This John gives his daughter Martha and two sons Samuel and Thomas all his land except the mill tract [about 12 acres]. He gives a horse to each of his daughters Polly and Martha and sons Samuel and Thomas. Everything else including the mill tract is to be sold and evenly divided between his children: James, Elizabeth, Polly, William, George, Zacharis [this name is indistinct and another extractor listed it as Zacheus] and Washington. Again, no real proof, but the possibility seems strengthened by this. In 1857 George Forrester became the guardian for three minor children whose father, Zachariah Forrester of Kentucky deceased. They were Sarah Elizabeth Forrester, Zachariah Forrester, and Mary C. Forrester. Sarah married before the estate was settled in 1859 and her last name was Umphrey [perhaps a corruption of Humphrey]. She seems to have stayed in Kentucky. In the 1860 census Mary C. and Zachariah are enumerated as a part of George¹s household. They both continued to live and marry and raise children in Scotland Co. with close ties to George W. Forrester. The descendents of Zachariah have written: ³Grandpa Zachariah Forrester died with pneumonia after he had rebuilt their house that had burned. He died at his parents [actually guardian] home as he was taking the last load of furniture to their new house.² Madeline Troyer On 6/30/03 2:34 PM, "dwhalen@ipns.com" <dwhalen@ipns.com> wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Forrester, Fetters, Northrup, Wishart, Mulch > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RMB.2ACE/537 > > Message Board Post: > > William Forrester married Narcissus VanZant ca 1833 in Franklin Co., TN. > William was born in KY, I believe Barren Co., but have not been able to > verify. I can't speak much to George Forrester since I descend from William Forrester. I can say that there is a high probability that William is the son of John Forrester, Jr. listed in the will. James and his wife Ursula "Nely" Parrish Forrester appear in the Scotland County Mt. Pleasant 1860 census (814-796) as a farm renter on property next to William Forrester (813-795). It could have been William's land, but I will have to research tracts the next time I am in Memphis. Listed with James are their two of their three son's Jackson and Thomas. James oldest son Parks, was married to Susan "Luan" Church and living in Barren Co., KY in 1860. Jackson Forrester appears back in Barren Co.in the 1880 census in the Mary C. Freeman household as a laborer. Jackson again appears in the Barren Co. 1900 census living in the John M. and Martha Forrester Church household (yes they were cousins, him 16 and she 25 when married). Martha was the daughter of Parks Forrester, who was Jackson's brother. He was listed in the 1900 census as "uncle". While the fact that James lived for a short time next to William, maybe even renting farm land from him, does not prove they were brothers, it does narrow the field. My goal is to visit Barren Co. next spring to try to tie up these loose ends. Since John, Jr. fought in the Revolutionary War, I want to add him to my SAR descendants if I can prove him out. I did read an article in the SC library this January that George and William (with their wives) established a new denomination of a church, something like the Baptist-Presbyterians, but I can't find the article I photocopied.
