Did they marry and if so, who did they marry? If they didn't marry what happened to them ?
I was recently down in Scotland County, around the Concord Cemetery area and decided to check out the Barnett cemetery. It was amazing to see a large statue of a WWI soldier appear out of no where on a dirt road. However that is all that I could see of the cemetery. Where did the cemetery go and does anyone have a list of those buried in it? I had several family members who used to live in the area and thought that they may be buried there. -- David Shelton Ancestory website http://www.interl.net/~davestoy/des/aqwx.htm Researching the surnames of: BILLS CLARK CLINE FRUIT/FRUITT/PRUITT HOBSON RUSSELL SHELTON SMITH WILLIAMSON GOLLIHER Have information for: ALBRECHT/ALBRIGHT DEAN/DEEN FAUST/FOUST ROCKHOLD TENNEY/TINNEY UNDERWOOD
David, there is not a Barnett Cemetery at the site of the statue. Since I love talking about Scotland Co. history, I hope you won't mind if I share a condensed story of the Barnett statue. Parnell Botts Barnett was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. James Barnett and was among the first Scotland Co. men to be called up for service in WWI. He was sent to Camp Funston at Ft. Riley, KS and died shortly after; one source says from improper sterilization of the needles used to give immunizations. His grief-stricken parents took their son's body to their native Kentucky for burial. Mrs. Barnett hoped to see their home and beautiful grounds become a playground for neighborhood children in her son's memory. The statue stands near the roadside of what was once the front yard of the Barnett home. Mr. Barnett lost the farm during the Depression and he and his wife moved to Arkansas. Many years ago, there were plans to move the statue to the courthouse yard, but they were never carried out. It's very sad to see the statue vandalized and deteriorating. Hmm, good question, but I don't know the answer. I've never seen any family history on the parents of Parnell Botts Barnett. They were from Tennessee, that's about all I know. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Dlouhy" <scificity@starpower.net> To: <MOSCOTLA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2003 12:33 PM Subject: Re: [MOSCOTLA] Barnett Cemetery: James Barnett > What's the connection , if any?: James H.
