Author: robertebruner Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.scotland/541.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Kerry Delzell of Ottumwa and Ottumwa High School Class of '65 or '66? Elder brother of Karen Delzell (Mrs. Greg Loy), maybe your aunt? I graduated from OHS in 1967 in Karen's class. Your paternal or sword great-great-grandfather Peter Casper Snyder, Civil War veteran, Company D 96th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and discharged June 1-Jul 10 1865 in New Orleans, LA, was first married (19 Jul 1868)to the eldest sister Elizabeth Cook (1841-1896) of my maternal or distaff great-great-grandfather John Cook (1852-1890). You descend from Peter's second wife Mary (Frances?)/Frankie Talbot. Peter and Frankie married 27 Feb 1900. You and I would not then seem to share any ancestry; however, I do like to follow all lines and, therefore, enumerate cousins to my distant relatives. I'm sure you find family tree research very interesting as I do, noting down the line how definite is the possiblity that we come to touch the lives of many around us . . . that "Six degrees of Separation" th! eory so recently touted in the news. Peter is buried in Richland Cemetery, Scotland County, Missouri, contiguous and east of my home county here in Northeast Missouri. It is a Civil War veteran stone; and Frankie is not found nearby. Perhaps she remarried. Elizabeth Cook, who died a young mother is buried nearby her father, my immigrant English ancestor Charles Cook (1812-1887) in Campground (Cumberland Presbyterian Church) Cemetery southwest of Richland Cemetery. Author: csmiyasaki Surnames: Heald, Classification: cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.scotland/207.211/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Just browsing and noticed interest in the Heald Cemetery. I was raised on the Heald farm where it is located. It measures 100' X 100'.It is primarily a family cemetery, although some neighbors and later people who lived on the farm are buried there. The farm was "homesteaded by Wm. G Heald (born in Bingham, Maine). He received 156 acres through the Military Bounty Land Act of March 3, 1855. My father has posession of the original papers, the original deed to the land, and a letter from a judge about a boundary dispute. I do have copies. It is quite interesting. John is buried in the cemetery. The last burial there was in 1990. Prior to that the last one was in 1956. The cemetery is quite old (probably from Wm. Heald's time) and in disrepair. I was there earlier this spring and all the gravestones were pushed over (probably a cow, according to my dad). Many are hard to find as time has taken its toll. However, some of them are in great shape. I am trying to go there ! again this fall. It is overgrown with lilies. I'm going to see if there is someone I can write to to see if there are some kind of grants or something to help get it in shape. I am putting a new gate on it this fall and my brother is going to help right the stones. I realize that this is years after your query, but thought you might be interested. I live in Colorado to explain why I am trying to get there. Carolyn (Heald) Miyasaki Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My name is Leslie Ann Garner Rodriguez. My mother is Cynthia Birdsall Garner and her mother is Frances Chance Birdsall. My mother was wondering about any information on your family (mom and sisters). She was not aware that your father had passed away. I guess that would make us second cousins. She is wondering about any contact information with your family. She would like to get ahold of you.
