She was my g-g-g-aunt, Eunice Goddard b.21 Dec 1810 in Greene County, PA, d.22 Feb 1867, I show her buried in Conyers Cemetery, Scotland County, MO. She was married to Levi J. Wise b.21 Dec 1805, d. 22 Feb 1887, also buried in Conyers Cemetery. I can only assume this burial info is correct as it came to me from another family researcher. I know nothing of their children at all and I've never been to Scotland County. I am interested in any info you could provide about the family. Cemetery photos are big with me if you know of anyone who does that. I am descended from her grandfather William Goddard 1751-1818 and am just about ready to put my website up on rootsweb with about 200-300 cemetery photos from around the Upper Ohio Valley. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The family again appears in 1910 with only Emma, a daughter, Leuisa C. and a hired hand, Thomas C. Smith. There is a WWI draft registration in 1918 for Edward Vance Davis of Granger, Missouri, age 20 and single, with occupation listed as a truck driver. In 1920, the household is just Emma and Edward V. - he is listed there as single and his occupation listed as truck driver. In 1930, the household is again Emma and Edward V - he is still listed as single and his occupation is listed as farmer. I don't have any information about Granger that reflects a skating rink (but that doesn't mean there wasn't one there at some point). Abraham Bish, B: Oct 13, 1819 in Kanawaha County, Virginia, D: Dec 12, 1902 in Santa Rosa, California, M: Susan Shipley 1840 in Sinking Springs, Highland county, Ohio. Notes for Abraham Bish: Page 4 of 7 Thursday, January 08, 2009 4:36:38 PM Ancestors of Franklin Marvin Martin Generation 4 (con't) Excerpts from HISTORY OF THE NAME BISH FOR 150 YEARS by J.A.Bish June 22, 1926....Abraham was about eight years old when his father died. He went to school only 2 weeks. He talked so broken that the other children made fun of him and he would not go to school. When grown to manhood he had learned to speak English well, could write letters and read a great deal to keep up with the times. His sisters were older than he was, we are sure. One time he told of his sisters dressing him and how he would run away out into the orchard half dressed. Susan Shipley was born in Ohio in September 1822. She and Abraham Bish were married in the year 1840 at Sinking Springs, Ohio. They were Methodists in the circuit rider days. To this union was born nine children. (6 sons, 3 daughters) Abraham was a farmer and followed that occupation all his life nearly. They lived in Ohio till 1854, that year they moved to Missouri and settled in Scotland County. His wife Susan died there o! n October 5, 1857, when her baby was about three months old. After this Abraham had to be both father and mother to the children for nearly two years or until they moved to Iowa. In 1859 he married a widow whose names was Mrs. Cynthia Burton. She had one son, Henry Burton who was about twelve at the time. The reason the family left Missouri was on account of the slavery question. It was one of the hot beds of the war because of the people who had slaves were so hostile to everybody else. When Lincoln called for volunteers on April 15, 1861, William Griffin Bish, the oldest son, joined the Union Army and served till the close of the war. He was wounded while fitting during the capture of Vicksburg, Mississippi, May 16, 1863, and was lame the rest of his life. Seldon Weber Bish (another son) was anxious to join the army but was too young. The family lived at Bloomfield, Davis County, Iowa. On account of such long cold winters they planned to move west. It was! on April 12, 1864 that they started across the plains to Oregon. Ma rtha, the youngest child remembered how trim and up to date the wagons looked with deck board for storing purposes and wonderful tent and cook stove with pipe running thru the tent. The wagons were arranged in circles every night, with bon fires in each circle, the smell of burning buffalo chips and sage brush was a very sanitary smell. Martha had a very pleasant memory of Clara and Clay, the two children who played with her on the trip. iii. Isaac Bish, B: 1823 in Virginia, D: Abt. 1847 in Highland County, Ohio. iv. Sherry: I have one Bullard, at least a last name of Bullard in my family tree. I am told that a Delores McIlrath, probably born about 1925-35, daughter of John McIlrath and Thelma Farmer, married a Bullard. I don't have my information with me, but I believe that the McIlraths married into the Jones family (My first cousins) and out of one of those marriages a Bullard. The Jones lived in Vernon Co., MO during one census and moved to Kiowa Co., KS but John McIlrath and Thelma Farmer were married in Stevens Co., KS. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sherry Balow" <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]," <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 02, 2009 3:30 PM Subject: Re: [MOSCOTLA] History Of Missouri > Hi -- I would be interested in any info regarding BULLARD. Can you please tell us the name of the book that you are offering to do lookups in and the author? I am looking for several families - RICHARDSON, STEELE, and SUTTLE - in the counties of Scotland, Knox, Clark, and Lewis in MO. I know that some were there at least by 1860 according to the federal census. The RICHARDSON families included names such as Andrew I., Laura, Franklin, William H., Orten G., Ellis, Phillip, Erastus, Minnie Belle, Annie M., Rebecca and Ella, Viola, Laura Mae, Lorene "Lottie", and Mattie I am looking for any STEELE families known to be there in 1859 including my great grandmother, Viola STEELE. And, I am looking for any SUTTLE families known to reside in the area. I do not expect you to look for each of these individuals but would appreciate knowing if there is info about these surnames and how I might find such information. Thank you so much for your offer to look up! Tamara G.
