    1. Re: [MOSCOTLA] Third Missouri Cavalry
    2. Hi John: My gr grandpa Benjamin Simeon Waggener and his brother John McClain Waggener and half brother James Andrew Waggener all served in Company A, 3rd MO Cavalry. They were all from Lewis Co., MO. I have some info on them from their pension files. My Gr Grandpa was mustered in, in Palmyra and was discharged in Rolla. There is also a reprinted book on the 3rd Mo Cav. that I was able to obtain for awhile on inter-library loan. It was on other companies, however, so had a little info for me but not much. March 27 '40 Dear Grace & Family - I have been wanting to write to you ever since we have been up here so at last got at it. Well I sure would like to talk to you instead of write and sure miss all of you folks down there a lot but we have close neighbors up here too. some have been in to see us the boys go to school and think a lot of the teacher she has been married three years. They pay her eighty five dollars a month. she cooks something for the children most every day then they have apples. too there are two boys in school as large as Truman [Swingle]. there are forteen children all together and Lloyd says they sure have some good times but the boys dont think the girls are so nice as they were down there. I dont think I ever saw a smaller school house and it is just a little ways from where we live. Well Grace I want to thank you folkes for what you did for us last winter and also when we moved I dont see how we could have gotten along without your help and we know we will never have a better neighbor. We would be so glad to have you folks come up and visit us this summer Lloyd said to tell Truman he could do something he couldent do go from where we live into another county in about five minutes we just live a little over a half mile from the county line between Scotland and Knox County. the little town of Greensburg is just about two and a quarter miles southeast of where we live we can get most enything you can get in Kirksville there in the way of groceries and just as cheep and any amount you want. there are two groceries stores and two churches there we are going to paper some this spring the rooms are large and the home reminds me some of the house at Clay only it is a better house. I know you have lots of your own folks to write to but try and write me a few lines and tell Cora Guy I will write to her sometime soon. I would like to have the chicken coops moved up here this spring if it is so we can I always thought so much of them for you folks gave us the lumber to make them but there wasent room for them in eather truck load. Robert is getting better we think. the rest of us are as well as usual. Have Vera [Swingle] write to me when you write with Love from Minnie Greensburg, Mo. R.F.D. No 1 P.S. hope you are all well. A valley created by the Fabius River. The cemetery and Church ar actually located just South of the Scotland County - Knox County Line. Thus being a Knox County Cemetery not a Scotland County one. There are many Scotland County natives buried there since it is only about a mile South of the County Line. Hope this helps. 3. Virginia who wrote; Do you think you could give us the location of this cemetery to clear up any confusion? I will do my best - Look on a Missouri map, up in the right hand (North-East) corner of the state and find the town of "Memphis". It is at the junction of hiway 15 and 136. Take 136 and travel East to cnty road "A" - turn right and travel to Gorin then on to South Gorin. continue on "A" until you cross over the North Fabius (Can't remember if this little creek is identified or not but it is the only creek you will cross. Very pretty little stream). Turn LEFT on the FIRST road you come to after crossing the creek and drive until you come to the Church and cemetery. (This land was donated for use as a Church and Cemetery by my BUFORD family - just a bit of Trivia for you :-}}. The families are posted on my website under Addendum to Buford Book of 2005.) If you miss the tiny road you will find yourself in Rutledge and you will have to turn around and go back.. "Been There Done That twice" Sure hope this helps - I'm not known for giving sterling directions but I try...
