I have forwarded your letter to the Scotland county list. Perhaps someone can help you there. They should respond to you directly because unless you're a member of the list you won't see this. John: You are absolutely right. It was Robert McClain Waggener who was in Co. A of the 3rd MO Cav. Thanks. Robert and Benjamin were brothers, 9th and 10th children of Simeon Green Waggener and Elizabeth Loy. Rachel died at Benjamin's birth. And, James was their half brother, the 1st of 11 children born to Simeon Green Waggener and Rachel McClister. I'll send you the photo of Benjamin in uniform separately. Thankyou, I didn't find any names that belong to me but this is a great help for many. The 3rd MO Cavalry Regiment does not appear to have a lot of connection to Scotland County Missouri, which I coordinate, but somehow my Great Great Grandfather's brother Erasmus Slavin ended up in it. And so it goes. He gave his life in service to his country at the Battle of Chalk Bluff on the St. Francis River in the bootheel. I know the 3rd Cavalry was organized in Palmyra, fought a battle near Columbia (Mt. I've never figure out where old Erasmus is buried, but I do know that he died from his wounds in Bloomfield. So if any of your see old Erasmus, let me know. John: Your research on the Missouri Cavalry is interesting. At this time I do not have any up date for you, I just thought I would give you what I'm looking for since it is in Scotland, County Mo. I'm researching Howard B. Shacklett born 4-27-1902 Gorin, Mo Scotland, Co died 10-11-1976 Peoria, Il. Howard parents were both from Gorin, Mo James W. lLllian Lille Johnson Shacklett. Howard had two son's I'm looking for they were born between 1920-1927. I do not have a first name or a wife, any Old Shacklett gossip is welcome. Howard left Gorin, Mo in 4-1920 to go to Illinois to work on the pipeline. Any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance. Have you checked with the Downing House in Memphis, Mo for the Third Missouri Cavalry ? ________________________________ From: John Slavin <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, May 17, 2009 1:49:40 PM Subject: Re: [MOSCOTLA] Third Missouri Cavalry Crystal: The text file you sent me says the name is Robert McClain Waggener. Hi John, Congratulations on this monumental undertaking. I wish someone who can type better than I would do something like this for 1st Missouri Cavalry. My great grandfather, from around the Arbela area , according to WPA cemetery rolls was there with Co.F. Keep up the good work. Could Howard be s/o Benjamin Woodbridge Shacklett (1774-1838) and brother of Benjamin Wooley Shacklett (1805-1894) whom I have followed in my work? Benjamin, the younger, was the maternal or distaff grandfather of one Byrdie WILLIAMS Hunt-Drake (1880-1961), d/o Matilda SHACKLETT Williams (1852-1896) who was married to my distaff great-grandfather James Ira Drake's younger half brother, Dr. Alva J. Drake (1874-1946). I don't have any information on Howard or his sons; I'm just speculating as he is in the same area, Gorin, as is the younger Benjamin Shacklett above. Sorry to bother you all; you need not reply. I haven't had any Rootsweb mail for several days so am checking things out. Floyd
I agree with J. Aylward. The one on the north side of the road is Bible Grove Church of Christ Cemetery and the one on the south side of the road is Bible Grove Cemetery (AKA Bible Grove Christian Church Cemetery). http://terraserverusa.com/map.aspx?t=2&s=12&lon=-92.30528&lat=40.35278&opt=1 Mike Flannigan On Mon, 27 Apr 2009, [email protected] wrote: > >My husband and I were at Bible Grove several years ago. Jan, I believe the cemeteries at Bible Grove go by the names of the churches where they are located: the Bible Grove Christian Church Cemetery and the Bible Grove Church of Christ Cemetery. If that isn't right, I'm sure someone will write in with the correct names. J. Benjamin Woodbridge SHACKLETT (1805-1894) was father of one Matilda SHACKLETT (Mrs. Alfred Thomas) Williams (1852-1896) who was the mother of one Byrdie H(arriet?) WILLIAMS (Mrs. Otis) Hunt-Drake (1880-1961), renowned music teacher in Lancaster, Missouri. Byrdie's second husband was Dr. Alva J. DRAKE (1874-1946), a younger half brother of my distaff great-great-grandfather John Lewis DRAKE (1837-1922). I have it noted that Benjamin Woodbridge Shacklett, late of Gorin, Missouri, is buried in Hicks-Shacklett Cemetery in Scotland County. I do not know this location but perhaps such a family named cemetery might be where your Howard B. Shacklett is also buried.
