    2. Mary Pickett
    3. Lillian Belle McGowan Jan 11th, 1890 - July 11th, 1922 God has come again and claimed one of His loved ones, Lillian Belle McGowan, daughter of Robert and Sarah McGowan. Lillian was born Januaury 11th, 1890 near Azen Missouri and passed away on to the Heavenly home that God prepares for such as she on July 11th, 1922 at the age of 32 years and 6 months. She was united in marriage to Lee Roy McManis of Cantril, Iowa on Decemeber 23rd, 1911 by Rev. Lloyd Tennant. To this union was born two children, Virginia Verlee age six years, who is left to comfort the father and Lillian Virgina who was born July 5th, 1922. She leaves to mourn her loss a loving husband, little Verlee, father and mother, a niece Cecille Phillips, who has made her home with her aunt since her own mothers death, four brother's and four sister's, Earle McGowan of Cantril, Craig Houk of Des Moines, Leonard McGowan of Seattle, Washington, Ottis McGowan of Bellingham, Washington, Mrs. Bernice Griffith of Luray, Mo, Mrs. Stella Bartholemew of Keosauqua, Mrs. Emma Kessel of McLouth, Kansas and Mrs. Lula Harbige of Loveland, Colo. with whom she lived at Cantril the five years preceding her marriage. During this time she taught for three years in the Cantril School as a successful primary teacher. When but a child of fourteen years she accepted Christ as her Saviour under the ministry of Elder Yokeley, pastor of the Christian Church. She afterwards transferred her membership to the Christian Church in Cantril. She held the church and it's societies in the highest esteem and was always ready and willing to help in the service. This willingness was always extended to everyone, and her home always bore an atmosphere of true welcome. Her passing away so unexoectedly is a heavy shock to her husband, and other relatives and the entire community. She was a great lover of good literature and all good things in life. No mother's heart was ever more devoted to a child then hers. A loss has come to the little one which cannot fully realize as yet. " Sunset and evening star, and one clear call for me." 3. Stephanie, the name on the death certificate is Martha J. and it looked like she could be the Martha Jane Schupbach the lady was asking about. You might want to ask her how she knew the middle name was Jane. The death certificate states that Mrs. Schupbach was buried at Downing, MO and I "assumed" that meant the Downing Cemetery. Once again I'm reminded, "never assume anything" in genealogy. Sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks for setting the record straight. J. 3. I was wondering the internet late one night and found an old map of the Memphis town square.  I don't think it would be considered a plat map cause all it was, was an outline of the buildings with the lot and block numbers listed.  I thought I saved the website but I didn't and am having a hard time finding it again.  If there is anyone with a suggestion on how to find it, I would greatly appreatiate that.                                                                             Thank you,                                                                          Jennifer Tinkle

    3. John and Jennifer, There was not a church located where the Scotland County Nutrition Site now stands. The open land behind the current building was allocated by the city as the City Cemetery. This is why there isn't more parking at the Nutrition Site. They were going to take the paving on back into that open area but they found the fragments of some of the stones, looked into the history of the land and found that there was a cemetery there. So they couldn't go back further. I hope this helps. Author: orphanandy Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.scotland/1248/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have a reference to the Masonic cemetery, east of Memphis, but the exact location is evidently unknown. The Memphis cemetery is also east of Memphis. Does anyone know if the Masonic cemetery was contained within what is known as the Memphis cemetery? Or -- does anyone know the location?
