Author: michellegaramella1 Surnames: Hodnett Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.scotland/1258/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for info on John J. Hodnett. John listed Scotland County, MO as his residence when he enlisted in the Army in 1943. I have not been able to obtain any military records. He also stated he was married at the time. John was a teacher with a PhD in Languages ( Latin, etc.). He did teach at St. Louis University in St. Louis in 1937. I have obtained all the info that they have, apparently he left the University. Any help would be appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [MOSCOTLA] Pleasant Grove / Gorin Cemeteries
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: orphanandy Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.scotland/1257/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Pleasant Grove and Gorin Cemeteries are two cemeteries just north of Gorin. They are said to share a common entrance, but, I find two signs: One indicates "Pleasant Grove Cemetery" and the other "The Gorin Community Cemetery, Inc. 1-13-73". A history of the Gorin Methodist Church indicates, "The Methodists and Presbyterians built a church together ca. 1870 at the location of the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Whoever gave the biggest contribution was to have the building dedicated to their denomination. The Methodists earned that honor. The Methodists sold the building to the Baptists in 1866 [another story says 1886] but continued to hold services there." Two questions: One - does anyone know which cemetery is the northernmost? (Satelitte image seems to indicate a division by a road, and it would make some sense if my info is accurate)? Two - Does anyone know if there are distinction between the two cemeteries as to religious origin, either Methodist, Presbyterian or Baptist? He was born 14 Feb, 1894 (according to his WWI draft registration). Records also indicate he was married to Zoe Yapple (or Yaple) around 1916 or 1917. Two children are listed: Roger Jr.(b. 1917) and Charles (Nov 1919). The entire family disappears after 1920. My maiden name is Grabowski and my family is from Memphis Missouri. This man lived with one of my great, great uncles (William Douglas)and aunts( Clara Ellen). I suspect Roger is Williams son but cannot prove it. Any information would be appreciated.
