His father was John Horace Black, born in Scotland Co., Missouri in 1830. His father was Andrew Jackson Black who married Sarah Ann Burner there in Scotland county. His father was William Black, married to Ann Camby in 1828 in Athens Co., Ohio. I have read that the Davis families and the Black families came out from Athens Co. to Missouri together. I am a little short of time right now, but I will try to find where I remember this information from. I think I also have a picture of Franklin's grave in Gifford. I was there last summer and tried to get a picture of all the tombstones. So you could check Athens Co., Ohio and see about the Davis family there. 1. [MOSCOTLA] Franklin Davis
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: craigelmiller Surnames: Davis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.scotland/1265/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hey All! I am looking for information on another Davis that spent part of his life in Scotland County, Missouri. Any information anyone has would be helpful. I'll provide what information I have, working backwards from what I know to what I may know. The Franklin (or Frank) Davis I am looking for was the father of Lawrence Davis (1902-1978), through whom I am decended. Frank Davis was born on 3 October 1857 and died in Nez Perce County, Idaho on 8 January 1915. The 1910 Census for Gifford, Idaho lists his birth state as Missouri, the same as his two sons living with him at the time (Raymond and Lawrence). According to this, his parents were both born in Virginia. Based on his name and age and the name and ages of his two sons in Idaho, I am pretty confident I have found his 1900 Census Record for Harrison, Missouri. Here, his name is listed as Frank Davis, his birthdate is Oct 1857, and additional family is included: wife, Elizabeth Davis (b. February 1863, m. ~1883); and children, Lillie, Amanda, Ollie, Charlie, Albert, Raymond, Homer. Raymond is listed in the 1910 Idaho Census above, and Lawrence wouldn't have been born yet. The birthplaces of his wife's parents (Kentucky and Indiana), led me to a tenuous finding of the marriage record. This record is between a Frank Davis and Eliza Spear dated 30 January 1883 for Scotland County, Missouri. I have a Census record from 1880 for a Liza Spear in Scotland County which gives here parents birth-states as well. I can find no other marriage records that are close. Finally, there is an 1880 census record from neighboring Lewis County that lists a Frank Davis born in Missouri about 1858 to parents from Virginia. This is definitely in the "maybe" catagory for belonging to the same Frank. I know the Idaho connection is correct, and I'm pretty confident about tracing him back to Scotland County in 1900. Tracing back farther than that becomes problematic, so I was wondering if anyone had any records that might be of Frank. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [MOSCOTLA] Website Update
    2. Fern
    3. Hello folks - just want to inform everyone about the recent up-date to my Buford website. www.bufordfamilies.com In addition to my regular pages that you all might be familiar with I have added a new category. It is entitled "OLD NEWS" and has ten(10) sub titles. This has been a ton of fun for me and a great way of researching my family. As I researched my Buford family I have also included some of my collateral families. I believe everyone might find something of interest to read as there is a lot of history to be found in the old newspapers available in local libraries and on micro-film. Hard on the eyes but if you are a history buff like I am, it is well worth the time and eye strain. My up-date covers over a hundred new pages. I hope you all find something interesting. If you have questions you may contact me at: [email protected] My sincere apologies if you receive duplicate emails regarding my update. Thanks and God Bless - Fern K. Smith, Sr. and his wife came to Missouri in 1831, so Robert, Jr. would have been born in MO. The name on the 1850 census is Robert T., not L. Hope this is some help. Smith family? I am searching for a Robert L. Smith born in North Carolina which I find in 1850 Mount Pleasant, Scotland, Missouri. ( I think). In 1860 I believe the same family is living in Sand Hill, Scotland , Missouri but list Robert T. Smith born in Tennessee with wife Margaret born in North Carolina. The son is Robert L. in 1850 and Robert T. in 1860, born in Missouri both times. In 1870 there is a Robert L age 42, Tennessee according to Ancestry.com with Marg. age 64 , North Carolina living just above Allen Smith family at Sand Hill. My Robert L. Smith which I think is the 17 year old son in 1850 and Robert T. age 27 in 1860 is living in Fredmont County, Colorado Territory in 1870 and in New Mexico in 1880. Can you help me get this family lined out? Thank you. Ingrid Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
