Marriage bond for Hopkins Henry Watkins and Eliza Jane Wellman, dated Feb. 11, 1832, Oldham Co., Ky., says she is the daughter of Elizabeth Wellman. Father not named. In 1833 and 1834 he bought out interests of wife's brother and sister in family farm in Ky. On Sept. 12, 1838 he sold 500 acres in Ky. and moved to Lewis Co, Mo., in 1839. I don't have the names of the bros. and sisters, but they must be mentioned in the deed records. I confess this info was given to me. It's all I have on them. I suspect I have the same Watkins data as you, too. How are you kin to Hopkins Watkins? I'm descended from his daughter, in Scotland Co. Mo.

Hi A large source of leads to family-history data is now on line. It is comprised of the Tables of Contents of the first 22 volumes of the Missouri State Genealogical Association Journal, 1981-2002+. Importantly, below the Tables of Contents, is an index. Reviewers find the whole page easily navigated despite the great amount of data included. A few of the key words with which to search the index are county names, directions (east, south, north, west), and family surnames (for Bible records). Use your browsers search function. When you find interesting leads on the web page, you will probably want to see actual copies of the Journal. Many libraries subscribe to the Journal. There is also information, below the index on the web page, on how to obtain copies of articles or issues. One can get an idea as to the length of an article in the Journal by noting the page numbers where it begins and where the following article begins. However, some articles are serialized over two to four issues. The URL is <http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm>http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm >
The Davis Cemetery is in the middle of a field and not very accessible. Doubtful if you can drive there, unless in a 4WD or on a 4 wheeler. I will send you a list of the Hanan burials in a separate e-mail. Good Morning, Thank you John for the information. This LAWRENCE family who married into my FOX family have all remained elusive when it comes to marriages. All have been found in Stiles but, as you said, they could have lived in MO. I knew it was close to the state line but, didn't realize that it was that close in those days to just kinda "hop" over to. Andrew's father Issac K. lived in Stiles but moved to Shulyer Co., MO. but lived in 2 different twps, 1 in 1870 and another in 1880. His children have been listed to have been born in Bloomfield or Stiles when in fact most were born in IL. Unfortunately Davis Co. IA doesn't have very good listings and it's been a real brickwall to get over but, think now I may have the key, thanks to you. Many thanks for the help from you and the others who responded to my plight. God Bless Kat JstPlnKAT@aol.com http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jstkat/index.html

Good Morning, I have tried as many ways as I can to find the marriage record of my ggg grandfather and ggg grandmother and can't seem to find it any where. Is the some kind soul that might have access to marriage information who could look this up for me? They lived in Stiles, Davis, Iowa but married in Scotland Co., MO. I also have a question, why were there so many people who lived the the Stiles area who did get married in Scotland County? Andrew Jackson Lawerence b: October 18, 1842 in Illinois d: May 30, 1880 in Stiles, Davis, Iowa +Sarah Agnes Bennett* 1842 - 1912 b: January 25, 1842 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania d: October 24, 1912 in Memphis County, Missouri m: August 30, 1863 in Scotland County, Missouri Thank you for your time. I'm just guessing, but there were two churches in that area that were prominent fixtures: the Barker church and the Catholic church. Of course Stiles is just a couple miles north of the state line. My mother grew up in that neighborhood. She lived in Missouri, but she tells me that when she was young, her family did most of their trading (where they bought dry goods, like flour, coffee and the like) at either Stiles, Hitt (in Missouri) or Pulaski. The other possibility is that they lived in Missouri. There are people even today that live in the northwest part of Scotland County that have Bloomfield, IA addresses. I would imagine that at one time those same areas had Stiles addresses. So when you say "Stiles area" that doesn't tell me much. In my own instance, I had a Downing phone number, a Downing address (and Downing is in Schuyler County), but lived in Scotland County and attended school in Memphis. Go figure.
