Thanks to everyone who has replied so quickly with answers to my questions! Especially John, Joanne, David, Walt, Janet and Margaret. I feel much better prepared than I did a few days ago. Am sure to have more questions as time gets closer. Looks like I'll be driving down on the 12th and returning home on the 17th. Am making a list of all the events I want to confirm and document. Intend to keep those librarians very busy! <vbg> I'm really getting excited about seeing out what Scotland County looks like and having a change to meet some very nice people. Ellen W.

Hi, I used to live a little ways from this church when I was a child! They still had church there then some of the time. The Church building hasn't been there for years. We lived on what was called the Rector Place and later on the Parrish Place. We still go to this part of Mo. about once a month to see relatives. By the way, what names or relatives are you looking for there ? Margaret (Lowe) Mathena ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ellen R. > - I want to visit the following cemeteries: Concord, South Bethel ME, and > Indian Creek. Are they reasonably accessible? Easy to find? In reasonably > good shape? The Concord Cemetery is very easy to find as long as your looking for the sign. I tend to miss it everytime I visit there, but that's because I'm always looking at the countryside. (A branch of my family owned a lot of the land in that area and are buried in Concord [Underwoods]) It is kept in relatively good shape by the Concord Cemetery Association. Some stones have been upended and/or missing. There are supposed to be several Chancellors buried there, but I haven't found any proof that that is true. Coming from Highway 15, the cemetery will be on your left side. You'll see it from a distance, but not when you are at the gravel road leading to it. I haven't visited the South Bethel ME Cemetery (next on my list), by it looks like it could be a chore in rainy weather because it is on a dirt road about a quarter of a mile off of M. Shouldn't be too hard to find since the map shows a church near it. At least you don't have to go to the Toombs Cemetery. I went there last year and ended up hiking about a mile in a cow pasture to find it, in July. As someone else has said, go to the County Clerk's office and ask for a county map. ($1) They'll be able to show you on that map where the cemeteries are, even if the cemetery isn't listed on the map (Toombs isn't). -- David Shelton Ancestory website http://www.interl.net/~davestoy/des/aqwx.htm Researching the surnames of: BILLS CLARK CLINE FRUIT/FRUITT/PRUITT HOBSON RUSSELL SHELTON SMITH WILLIAMSON GOLLIHER Have information for: ALBRECHT/ALBRIGHT DEAN/DEEN FAUST/FOUST ROCKHOLD TENNEY/TINNEY UNDERWOOD

Looking for Michael N. CROSS family in Scotland Co., MO in 1850's. His wife was Elizabeth "Betsy" A. TURNER. Lisa
Hi There is two motels in Memphis and both are nice for a little town to stay in. Yes all of these cemetery are easy to locate if you know where to look. Go to the court house and there you can get a map in the Circuit Court Clerk's office. They are get to help you in locating the many cemeteries that are in the county. I am not sure about the time the library is open but there is two locations that you would want to check. The Gen. people have a separate building that contains a lot of information. Also check with the Associate Court Judge Karl DeMarce. His wife is a member of the Gen. in Scotland Co. If I can help anymore, please let me know. Hi Indian Creek Cemetery isn't hard to find it is north of Rutledge. You take the black top road that is just east of Rutledge. At the end of the road there is a gravel road that turns to your left. Take this gravel road to the top of the hill and on the right side of the road is the cemetery. It is real easy to find. I'll have my county map and a full tank of gas so maybe I can find it! Besides, I look forward to doing some exploring. RE Indian Creek Cemetery -- Accessible, but not easy to find. I was there a few months back. It is out in the fields, between Gorin and Rutledge, on a gravel road at the top of a hill. Cemetery itself is in good shape, it has perpetual care.
Hi All! Looks like I'll finally get to make my pilgrimage to Scotland County in mid-May! Am trying to organize my research so will know exactly what I want to look for. Perhaps list members can help with questions I have, in no particular order... - Is the SunRise Motel still the best place to stay? - I want to visit the following cemeteries: Concord, South Bethel ME, and Indian Creek. Are they reasonably accessible? Easy to find? In reasonably good shape? - What are the Library's hours and when is the Genealogy Room open? My visit is limited to midweek, is that going to be a problem? - Anything else I should know? I'm researching the family of Samuel HARRIS and Mary McPHERSON Samuel F. HARRIS (1817 - 1893) & Mary E.
