    1. Re: [MOSCOTLA] DEPEW Genealogy
    2. Bonnie Wilson
    3. Hi Gene Hope you all don't mind my intervention. I am not a direct descendant of the DEPEW/MULLINEX line but I do have in my possession John Depew's obit clipping. My GORDY/KINNEY/REED women were good to keep track of family, no matter how far reaching. The clipping reads as follows: John Depew Buried at Kilwinning Saturday John Depew who has been sick for some time, passed away at his home east of town Wednesday night at the age of 47 years, 8 months and 21 days. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Mullinex in 1900. To this union one child was born. Mrs. Depew passed away July 3, 1901. He was a member of M.W.A. and I.O.O.F. lodges and was always a faithful member. He was a loving and devoted husband , kind and thoughtful father and son and a good neighbor. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Hubert Crawford, one grandson and one sister, Mrs. Frank Laws besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the church at Kilwinning, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev.Whitacre after which the body was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Kilwinning cemetery. (From Downing Correspondent) Note: the date Oct 1923 is written on the clipping. I hope this adds to your family history in some way. 3. You're a certifiable P-E-A-C-H ! ! ! God Bless your dear late GORDY/KINNEY/REED women! The obituary adds a lot of information and validates and enhances information I had written down from my grandmother and her cousins! I had only just written that that kind of "lore" is the best even it cannot be proven with court records. Oh, we might correspond. REEDs married into my COOK line and collateral COX line. Thanks again! 3. I hope you received my e-mail and attachment to your personal address. I have MANFORD E. DEPEW and JOHN WILLIAM DEPEW sons (I think) of ISAAC L. & THURZA J. MARTIN DEPEW in my family tree. Your mention of the DEPEW name caused a flurry of interest here in me! I'll explain. Two DEPEW brothers, I think they might have been brothers, married MULLINIX sisters in my line. The sisters are distant cousins through my PRIME line. The brothers are Manford E. DEPEW and John William DEPEW who are buried in old Kilwinning Cemetery, section 15, Miller Township, (extreme northwest) Scotland County, Missouri. Nearby, appear to be their parents, Isaac L. and Thurza J. MARTIN DEPEW. Are you descended from this line? You might the attachment I sent to your personal address somewhat interesting. It interweaves my mother's side as well as my dad's. My notes will be interspersed. I hope you'll want to correspond with me. This is a lot of fun! I would love to know any link you might have to the attached and I would be happy to share anything I have with interested distant cousins about our shared PRIME background! May I hear from you! This Scotland County Missouri list site is turning out to be quite wonderful! Gene Bruner Denver, Colorado

    3. Kathy, This is going to be a long shot, but are any Norton's, Bondurant's or Woods mentioned in that book? Most were from Memphis but they moved so much around Scotland County its hard to say. 1. [MOSCOTLA] Lookup for BURRIS and DEPEW
    2. My great grandfather, Joseph M. Depew and his family lived in Scotland County around the time of the Civil War. They should have some young children buried there, but I haven't been able to find exactly where. His wife's name was Armelda J. Burris Depew and she lived there with her mother-in-law while my great grandfather was gone serving in the war. The mother-in-law was Susan or Susanna Depew. Do you have a record of any of these names in Scotland County during that time period? Thank you. DPeirsol

    3. Kathy, the DRAKE progenitor in Scotland County is William DRAKE b 27 Jun 1794 md Mary A. PAUL b 21 Mar 1820 (really that much younger than he); and his sons were Francis DRAKE b 01 May 1820 md Mary Rebecca BARNETT; William Henry DRAKE b 27 Apr 1830 md Sarah Jane HOPKINS; James Chappell DRAKE b 27 Apr 1835 md Rebecca LEACH; John Lewis DRAKE b 15 Mar 1837 md 1 Lucinda A. WEYER & 2 Matilda Julia SMITH HARLE; Daniel Melvin DRAKE b 05 Oct 1854 md Anna May ROSENBERGER; and Minor P. DRAKE b 06 Oct 1863 md Sarah J. MEEKS. A son and grandson of reknown are Alfred Hamilton DRAKE b 23 Jun 1864 md Ellen Rebecca WILSON; and plowing champion Leo Kelso DRAKE b 22 Dec 1903 md Mary Magdelene CLARK, respectively. The book sounds interesting, I bet I might know all the DRAKEs mentioned. I would hate to have left unmentioned any that might appear; and at the same time I am reluctant to press for all the names sketched. However, you know us family tree-ers, we check 'em all out. Thanks for reading. 3. "Town Called Memphis" mentions Thomas & Martin Lowe, early settlers of Scotland Co. in 1836, came from "Boon" county. I think the name is misspelled, should be Loe. Also mentions Ralph Lowe, first blacksmith in Memphis (no date). ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret" <mmathena@accessus.net> To: <MOSCOTLA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 31, 2003 11:59 AM Subject: [MOSCOTLA] About Book > Was wondering if there is any mention about the Lowe's in the book about Memphis ?
