Bonnie, Thank you so much for responding to my inquiries. I will check with my daughter who is a genealogist to see if any of these Cox families are related to ours. If they are, I will get back to you. I certainly appreciate your fast response. Sincerely, Dolores
Delores, I am not a direct descendant of either the Cox or Depew family. Apparently my family married into these families somewhere along the long list of extended lines of the REED, GORDY & KINNEY families. What I have is a clipping of John Depew. It reads as follows: John Depew Buried at Kilwinning Saturday John Depew who has been sick for some time, passed away at his home east of town Wednesday night at the age of 47 years, 8 months, and 21 days. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Mullinex in 1900. To this union one child was born. Mrs. Depew passed away July 3, 1901. He was a member of M.W. A. and I. O. O. F. lodges and was always a faithful member. He was a loving and devoted husband , kind and thoughtful father and son and a good neighbor. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Hubert Crawford, one grandson and one sister, Mrs. Frank Laws, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the church at Kilwinning, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. Whitacre after which the body was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Kilwinning cemetery. (From Downing Correspondent) [there is a handwritten date, Oct 1923] I have the following Cox clippings: Carl Catherine (Marlow) George W Ida Frances Lowell Clare Nicholas James If you think any of these will help I can scan them to you. My capacity may be exceeded for some reason, send to my cousin Jim here, jbruner@nemr.net, or I'll just have to wait until I get back to Denver. I just checked the Ancestry fiiles for William Gray Reed. This William Gray Reed was married to Mary Ellen BRIDGES. His parents are listed as Peter Reed and Nancy Gray. Other children are listed as [1] Calvin Herd Reed - born 22 Oct 1824, in Hardin County, Kentucky. [2] Thomas Ish Reed - born 1820 in BBreckinridge Co., Kentucky. [3] Mary Jane Reed - born 10 Mar 1827, Breckinridge Co., Ky. [4] John Washington Reed - b. 5 Apr 1831, Breckinridge Co. KY [5] Lisa Reed [6] Martha J. Reed [7] Nancy Ann Reed - b 1844, in Breckinridge Co., KY (she married a Crawford) and [8] William Gray Reed - b. 1845 Breckinridge Co., KY. This is not my reasearch, I do have research, but also a puzzle reguarding the William Gray Reed family. I remember as a teenager, visiting my father's Reed cousins, in Orisi, Tulare County. I also have visited Smiith Mountain Cemetery, near Dinuba, Tulare County California, where several of my Bridges uncles and their wives are buried. In this cemetery, William Gray Reed and his wife, Mary Ellen (Bridges) Reed, also are buried there. My father, Elmer Ely Bridges( 27 Nov 1889- 18 Jun 1976) told me that following the death of Jerome Bridges (Downing, Schuyler Co., Missouri- 31 Jan 1901) at least two of his children, William Green Bridges and Mary Ellen Bridges Reed and their families purchased tickets on the train and moved from Missouri to Tulare County, California. In about 1980, I visited, my late father's cousin, Katie Reed Oneal and took form her family records and Bibles the following data: Mary Ellen Bridges, married William Gray Reed, 17 Nov 1871, Schuyler Co., Missouri. Records in posession of Katie Reed Oneal, list the following children as being born to William Gray Reed and Mary Ellen Bridges Reed were: [1] Wesley Columbus Reed, b. 08 Jan 1872; [2] Jesse S. Reed, b. 21 May 1874.(death record gives birth as 21 May 1873 and death date as 02 Feb 1952, Fresno Co., California. [3] Martha Reed, b. 03 Oct 1872. [4] Mary Reed, b. 03 Oct 1973; [5]Thomas O. Reed, b. 24 Nov 1883 and [6] Katie Reed, b. 03 May 1891 and died 23 Jan 1989. Now comes a puzzle, The twins Mary and Martha and one of the boys died in infancy. I find census record in 1920, Tulare County, CA, Dinuba Twp for(household 3; residence 3) [line 35] Oliver O. Oneal, his wife Katie (Reed)[line 36] and three children; [line 37] Alfred, [line 38]Lola M. and[line 39] Wilfred. [line 40] Mary Reed, Katie's mother is in household also. William Gray Reed died Feb 1919. The next household is the puzzle. (Household 4- residence 4) [line 41]James O Reed, his wife Anna [line 42] ; children: William G [line 43]; Geraldine [line 44]; Walter [line 45]; Linley [line 46]; Orval [line 47]. (Household 5, residence 5) Jesse S Reed [9 line 48] his wife, Lucinda [line 49] and children: Paul [line 50] next page- [Line 1] Nellie; [line 2] Checked William Gray Reed, Miller Twp., SCOTLAND , Co MISSOURI James O Reed just older than Katie. If there are any questions- I just got out of the hospital. Good Evening List, To those of you who ask me for a look-up last week in the above book. I have copied your pages and will attempt to scan then e-mail them to your personal e-mail. I hope that some of the pages will help you. The e-mail with attachment(s) will be coming from katlou5@earthlink.com (Kathy in CA). And being the computer dummie that i am i'll have to send more than 1 e-mail to you. All Best, Kathy in CA.
I too am searching for Reeds. Daniel and Leanna. Three children (at least) born in Memphis Mo. Probably between 1841 and 1850. Then they are back in the Illinois census in Stark County. I am assuming they had relatives. Since we know little about Daniel's siblings, or if he even had any. Do know his parents in PA died at early age, sometime after 1818 and he was raised by his aunt and uncle Kate and Daniel Porter. Think there may have been some Porters down in Scotland County. Any information would be appreciated. Thank You Pat Reed
Bethany The clipping I have of Calvin Crawford states he is the son of William and Nancy Crawford. He died January 17,1917. Later on in the piece it states he cared for his mother who passed away 3 years before. His father, 6 brothers and 2 sisters survived him. Don't know if this is your Nancy or not. I cannot find any direct connections to my Reed family. Have several clippings on John W Reed's family. Can't find any connections here either. Walt and Bethany I have threads to some of your REEDs and mine but they are so small that I can't connect them yet. It seems many of these folks travelled from KY to MO together and settled in the same areas. The clippings I have in my Grandmother's scrapbook are all family in one way or another too bad she is gone and can't help me sort it out. They are my brick wall. Someday I'll find the missing link..................someday. Bonnie
