Surnames: Meeks, Carter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RMB.2ACE/422.4 Message Board Post: I am researching my husband's family, Carter. In going through a box of old pictures I ran into pictures of children labeled Meeks on the back. One picture was labeled with Cleona and Perry Meeks, it looks to be 1890s photo. My father in law felt that there was a connection by marriage, but I have never been able to ascertain this. If this is anyone you have in your Meeks line let me know. I have scanned the picture. Do you have a Carter marriage in there? They were listed in the Mt. Pleasant Township. Thanks, Julia

Have you been able to uncover that connection? Jackson was born in Maryland, Louisa Darnielle born in Kentuckey; However, their children listed in the 1880 census were listed as born in Pennsylvania. I have researched my husband's family and we were fortunate to have some original documents. I have Louisa Darnielle Fordney's Widow's Affadavit applying for pension from Jackson Fordney's Civil War service. Filed 28 October 1926, Scotland Co Missouri. Validates the marriage as having taken place 21 Oct 1852. I have a scanned version if you are interested.

    3. I have SMITH siblings, it seems, namely Humphrey Elias SMITH b 1847-1848 MO & Sarah Margaret SMITH b 20 Oct 1856, who married into BOTH my father's AND mother's lines. According to the 1860 U S Census, Fabius Twp, Schuyler Co., MO, the abovementioned pair with their siblings, i.e., Elizabeth SMITH b 1839-1840 TN, John SMITH b 1841-1842 VA?, Isaak SMITH b 1843-1844 MO, Humphrey SMITH b 1847-1848 MO, and Sarah SMITH b 1855-1856 MO, were the children of John C. SMITH b 1799-1800 VA and Marilla b 1809-1810 VA. Marilla was a MARTIN, I believe. John, above, had the middle name of Martin. Elizabeth md George WHITE b 1839-1840 TN who was in the SMITH household at the 1860 U S Census. John Martin SMITH b 27 Nov 1840 md Phoebe A. b 16 Dec 1845 and both are buried in Downing City Cemetery, Downing, Schuyler Co., MO. Humphrey Elias 'Doc' SMITH md Sarah COOK b 08 Sep 1850 an elder sister of my maternal great-great-grandfather John COOK. 'Doc' and Sarah, I believe journeyed to Southeast Kansas, following Sarah's elder brothers. Their graves may be in Coffeyville or Cherryvale, KS. Sarah Margaret SMITH b 20 Oct 1856 md 15 Feb 1872 Scotland Co., MO, one Hardin Ellis 'Ed' BRUNER b 28 Mar 1852 an elder brother of my paternal great-grandfather James Driscoll BRUNER b 2 Dec 1856. 'Ed' and Sarah are also buried in Downing City Cemetery. I do not know anything further about Elizabeth SMITH WHITE, Isaak SMITH, or John Martin SMITH families, or if there were other siblings. I wonder what you might have on this SMITH family, if anything at all. WHITEs number among my collateral lines, too, as well as the MARTIN name. May I hear from you? 2. J.L. Aylward
    3. There will not be an obit for Uzal Cory in Scotland Co. Our newspapers on microfilm don't go back that far. It's possible there could have been an obit in a regional newspaper or a church paper. He is listed in the 1860 census mortality schedule as age 64, b. OH, d. March. He had a will and heirs were wife Lucinda, children Mary Elizabeth (Mrs. Wm.) Brewer; Ketura (Mrs. John B.) Rathburn; Nancy (Mrs. Leander) Lake; Charlotte (Mrs. E.G.) Rathburn; Jeremiah M. Cory; and Uzal Cory. Uzal Cory is buried about half a mile east of my house in the Rathbun family cemetery. (The name is spelled Rathbun on Keturah's stone). The last time I was there, his stone was propped against a tree, but was legible. His stone says "Uzal Cory, died March 13, 1860, Aged 58 y 2 m 20 d." Hope this is some help. 3. I had noted only that Theresa BARKER married a HOOVER. Also Hila and Theresa's brother John Harvey BARKER married a BRUNER, one Anna Belle/Nancy BRUNER, a younger sister of Albert Lee 'Bert' BRUNER; and their daughter Corda Ethel BARKER would become the mother of Orville Max SCHUPBACH. Max would marry Mother's first cousin Doris Ardell BAKER. I am a double cousin then to their children, being related through both my maternal and paternal lines. I love this stuff! May we share more?
