    3. Looking at the Saline Co highway map, Petra used to be northwest of Slater -- nr Rds NN & C. Afraid I don't know the history of it right now, other than a greatuncle was born there in 1874. The Marshall library people might be able to help you -- phone # Ihave is 660-886-3391. >Anybody know where the ghost town of Petra was located >in Saline county? First the National Archives keeps Federal records not state. Missouri does have it's own State Archives Office. I went to their website and did a search and found they do have microfilm of naturalization dockets, etc. so I imagine it would be there. http://msa.library.net/TLCScripts/interpac.dll?LabelDisplay&DataNumber=4188897&DB=1&FormId=338-14707&ItemField=1&Config=990019&Branch=0 if that link doesn't take you there directly go to here: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/ordb.asp and choose Archive Online Catalog and searc on naturalization. There is also some pre 1909 births/deaths there. Hope this helps :)

    3. Joanna: I don't know whether I can help a whole lot. The person I was helping (I live in California and she lives in Illinois) had a copy of her gr grandfather's naturalization letter (he came from Canada to Saline County, Missouri). She wanted to find the original - and here in California the naturalization files are kept within each state's Recorders office - I didn't know about Missouri. I was told that they are kept at the National Archives in Missouri (they said no) and at the County - which is where she went - and did not find it. My part in this is that the person whose record she wanted to find was married to my great grandfather's sister so I was a bit removed from the person himself. 3. Karren, I'm Karen. You would not believe how much info there is available re: Indian land or land records in general. Also, check The library of Congress. They have info on anything written or published since our country was founded. You could get that info on line. I have access to so much info. Write me anytime. I am an information junkie. 3. Genealogists, particularly those interested in the use of technology, will meet in St. Louis from 22-24 January 2004 for NGS GENTECH 2004. December 1 is the deadline for the "early bird" registration discount. Since 1993, GENTECH has been the national conference for people interested in GENealogy and TECHnology. In 2002 GENTECH strengthened its infrastructure and expanded its role by becoming a division of the National Genealogical Society. Each year the conference has featured a panel of nationally known speakers who have addressed themselves to every aspect of the use of computer and Internet technology to support genealogical research - to meet the needs of advanced users as well as those just beginning to use technology in their research. This year there will be a special Librarian's Pre-Conference at NGS GENTECH Thursday, January 22, 2004. Details of this special Pre-Conference are at: www.slcl.lib.mo.us/slcl/sc/gentech04/precon-schedule.htm. Information on the entire NGS GENTECH conference can be found at: http://www.eshow2000.com/ngsgentech/register_now.cfm or at the St. Louis Genealogical Society website: www.stlgs.org/gentech2004 John Konvalinka, CGRS(sm), CGL(sm) www.konvalinka.com CGRS (Certified Genealogical Records Specialist) and CGL (Certified Genealogical Lecturer) are service marks of the Board for the Certification of Genealogists <http://www.BCGcertification.org> used under license by certified persons after periodic competency evaluations.

I found a great website with old Missouri Newspapers you can search online. Among the newspapers is the St. Louis Christian Advocate published by the Methodist Episcopal Church South. I'm not sure how late it was publlished but might have been published then since they merged and became United Methodist in 1939(I think). Any way it's worth searching all the papers there since your relative could have shown up in a newspaper for some reason.
