    3. To: Paul Haynes and all others that share information, My Great-great grandfather arrived in Arrow Rock with his family in the mid 1850's. They had traveled from Hardin County, Kentucky. I have visited the Miami area, but failed to continue the short distance to Arrow Rock. My mistake. Maybe on my next journey to Missouri, I will be able to visit Arrow Rock and other places close by that have ancestral ties to the Purcell line. I have visited the Arrow Rock link that Paul Haynes provided in his email and am most impressed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and lore with the rest of us interested personnel. 3. I found the following information about Sibley's Fortin "History of Saline County, Missouri" published 1881 by Missouri Historical Company, St. Louis - page 142: "In the year 1807 a company of traders with head quarters at St. Louis sent Captain George Sibley, of St. Charles, to establish a trading post within the present boundaries of Saline county. The site chosen, after a careful survey of the country, was where the town of Arrow Rock now stands. Here Captain Sibley erected quite a substantial building of logs a story and a half high, with one door and no window, which could be used for a trading house and converted into a fort or block-house at a minute's warning. Sibley had with him a clerk, an interpreter, one or two assistants, and his family. The trading house had no windows and no side openings save a door and numerous port holes. Sibles was agent for the Sacs, Foxes, Iowas, and Miamis. Upon the breaking out of the war of 1812 he returned to St. Charles or to St. Louis, and it is believed never after came to the county. Sibley's house stood on the bluff, some say upon the present site of High street, and others say a mile north of the town." _________________________________________________________________ Check out MSN PC Safety & Security to help ensure your PC is protected and safe. http://specials.msn.com/msn/security.asp

    3. Donnagene: In your searching for your Johnston/Johnson family from Canada, did you come across the names of Peter Lamear and/or Abe Allenberg? They both were born in Canada about the same time and settled in Saline County too. I have some information on the Lamear family (Peter married Amanda Hinton/Obrien). Peter and Abe owned a brick making factory in Marshall. If you come across the names, I would like to correspond with you. I am writing to Peter's great granddaughters and have his naturalization letter from Saline County - that might be a source for you too. Peter and Abe owned a brick making factory in Marshall, Saline County. I have been trying to gather more information about those who came together from Canada - mainly, why this area of Missouri?
