    1. [MORTON] Re: WILLIAMS and MORTON
    2. Pauline Denmark
    3. John and Mary WILLIAMS were baptising their children at West Malling in Kent between 1757 and 1770. They were : William 1757 Mary 1759 Joseph 1761 John 1763 Elizabeth 1765 and Thomas 1770. Joseph WILLIAMS was my husband's 4 x gt. grandfather, who fathered Robert Williams MORTON on Jane MORTON 3 years before their marriage in 1786, also at West Malling. For reasons which we shall never know, Robert Williams MORTON (a Captain in the army) apparently retained his mother's maiden name and passed it on down the line to his own children and his later descendants. Hence, there are no more WILLIAMS references in the family. Is it unusual for siblings of the same parentage to have different surnames? I would be interested to know whether anyone has any knowledge of this family and Joseph's five siblings, and would be glad to share what information I have with others.
