I have not made inquiries or responded to information on the Morton family in some time. I am probably grasping at straws, but there is a mention of a James Morton born to Captain John Morton and his second wife, Lucy Blakely. My gg grandfather was James Graham Carty Morton, born in 1789. All I have heard about him is that he was born in Rowan County, NC. He married Eliza Steele, moved to west Tennessee where they lived during the 1820s. Then went on to Cape Girardeau County, MO, where he died in 1836. Every time I try to go back further to learn the name of his parents or siblings, it's like a brick wall has been erected. I would REALLLY appreciate any help with this. Maybe Captain John Morton is my long-lost ggg grandfather. LaFern Cockrell
