I am trying to find more information about Gerrard (Jarrott) Morton who lived in Orange Co. VA in late 18th century. I have Gerrard and William Morton as witnesses for a rental document for Richard and Patience Morton in 1778 Orange Co. Gerrard is a witness to the marriage of John Rucker and Betty Tinsley in 1780 Orange Co. "The History of Virginias in the Revolution" lists a Jarrott Morton as a signer of the Orange petitions. I recently accessed these petitions on the VA State Library web site and the signature I found looks like Geo. (for George) to me. The book also lists a Gerard Morton in the 2nd VA Regulars of Continental Line; however the National Archives has no info on him. Has anyone out there any information on this or any other Gerrard (Jerod) Morton? Betty T.
