Hello Betty, Do you have any ideas about the name "Step"? My 3rd-great-grandfather was named Step MORTON. He was married to Nancy RICHMOND in Caswell County, NC in 1809. He signed his name as Step on the marriage license and his name also appeared as Step on tax lists, the 1820 census in Williamson County, TN and on his probate records. Thanks for your help.
