Dear List: One again I am asking if anyone has Morton family that used to be the surname Throckmorton? My ancestor, James T. Morton, b. probably 1783 in NJ, changed his surname to Morton circa 1806 when he was living in Ohio. I have lots of information about this man, but still cannot find a death record for him. He SUPPOSEDLY died in 1870 in Keokuk, Lee County, IA. Thanks. Patricia Foster fosterpd@psln.com
Pat: Are you completely sure that he changed his name from Throckmoton to Morton? That is the same story that was handed down in our family of Mortons, but I recently found out my ancestor had 3 brothers that we didn't know he had, so all of them would have had to change, which makes it very unlikely. My ancestor John had a brother James, but he was James Madison and from VA. Another Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: David W.
