Melinda, I would need some dates to figure out if you are connected with my Mortons. I have a Norma Battle Morton who was born 3/25/1884 Waco, Mclennan Co, TX. The family was in TN 1822-1840, AL 1840-1850, MS (Tishomingo) 1850-1859, 1860-1869 Polk Co., AR, 1865 Waco, my 1st generation left Waco and moved out of Texas 1870 Census-Unknown, 1875-1880 Waco, Mclennan Co., Tx, 1886-1893 Houston, Harris Co., TX. I haven't been able to pin down who my 1st generation's(Sameul Gill Morton) siblings or parents are. He (Samuel 26, TN) was in the household of a Charles Moten, 36 TN, in 1850 Tishomingo along with his two boys from his 1st marriage. There was also a Ailys female age 70 born in SC. Perhaps this is his mom. Charles could be a sibling or cousin. I can e-mail you my family tree outline to see if you recognize any names. Here are the instructions with a little more detail: 1. Go to http://www.genexchange.org 2. Click on US Bio-Bin. 3. Enter MORTON in the surname slot and then click SEARCH. 4. Three Morton names will appear. Click on which Morton you wish to see their biography. In this case WILLIAM JACKSON MORTON. It will take you to the biography. Debra Tucker

I have not made inquiries or responded to information on the Morton family in some time. I am probably grasping at straws, but there is a mention of a James Morton born to Captain John Morton and his second wife, Lucy Blakely. My gg grandfather was James Graham Carty Morton, born in 1789. All I have heard about him is that he was born in Rowan County, NC. He married Eliza Steele, moved to west Tennessee where they lived during the 1820s. Then went on to Cape Girardeau County, MO, where he died in 1836. Every time I try to go back further to learn the name of his parents or siblings, it's like a brick wall has been erected. I would REALLLY appreciate any help with this. Maybe Captain John Morton is my long-lost ggg grandfather. LaFern Cockrell
I am also looking for a Lovina Morton who was married to Thomas Carney and lived in Sinnamahoning, PA in 1881 when my grandfather John A. Carney was born. Ring any bells? Thanks, Barb
Does anyone have any Mortons from Conn.? I have a William Morton and Mary (Burnham) Morton in Conn around 1650's I believe and have most of their descendents. If you think you might ite in please email me. Tawnya White TWhite7963@aol.com

Perhaps not a definite cousin, but we have a John Morton from New Brunswick,VA who went to Chatham (Cheatham) County N.C. I do not know who he married or the names of his children except our direct ancestor John Morton who married Annie Poe and had at least two sons who were John Morton Jr. and William Morton. Betty, Thanks for your help. I thought we had exchanged e-mails before but wasn't certain. I appreciate your help. Melinda

Tina, The only George I have in our family is George Anderson Morton. I will check my other databases, but it will take a little time. I know there are several George Washington Morton in the VA groups. Betty T. Martha, I didn't have a Robert and Jeremiah in the material I posted to the list, but I can check my databases and see. Are they both in the same family? That helps to narrow the serach. I have each of three Morton lines in separate databases on separate disks, so it takes a bit of searching. Betty T. Melinda, I have checked for your Elizabeth Battle Morton before when you posted a query. Didn't find her. There are so many Elizabeth Mortons, you wouldn't believe!!! There are several Mortons who were pastors. John Booker Morton's sons were all pastors, if I remember right. There is also a possibility that "Parsons" is a first name as there are Parsons families connected to Mortons and they had a tendancy to use last names as first names. Sorry, that doesn't help much, does it? Have you checked the Quaker records? I think Parsons family was quaker. I have a couple marriages of my people listed in the Quaker Encylcopedia. Betty T.
Betty, I just saw your mention of your VA database for MORTON and thought perhaps you could help me. I am searching for the parents of my 4g grandmother, Elizabeth Battle MORTON b. 1768 probably VA said to be the d/o Parson MORTON. Does that mean he was a minister? Was Parson his given name? Elizabeth m. James Storke STROTHER a RevWar veteran on 8 May 1788 in Fairfax Co., VA. James was b. 1755 Strafford Co., VA. James d/ 1818 in Russell Co., VA and Elizabeth d. 1844 Smyth Co., VA. Thanks for any help you or other members of the list can provide. Melinda Collins Larson
HI BETTY All of the ones i am looking for are from pa but hit a dead end also bet the are from Va to begin with. Mary Pat My Mortons went from Botetourt Co. VA to Preble Co. OH to Allen/Wells Co. IN. We have a book that my cousin-in-law did from the time they arrived in IN in 1830s. But all we have of their origins is that they were born "in VA." I've spent the past year researching all the Mortons in VA trying to find our ancestors, but I have had no luck. If anyone has any info on a Gerrard/Jerod Morton, Robert Osborn Morton, Nancy and Elizabeth who both married Hughes boys, I'd appreicate hearing about it. Supposedly their parents were a Richard Morton and Elizabth Osborn, but I have nothing to verify that, only family lore. Consequently I have built up quite a Morton database. Betty T.
Betty, your documentation is great! Where were your Mortons during the late 18th century and through the 19th century? Did they leave VA? Mary Pat -----Original Message----- From: Betty L.
