I am trying to figure out who Samuel Gill Morton /Moton / Moten 's parents and siblings are. The only clue I have is from the 1850 Tishomingo Co., MS Census. Samuel had lost his 1st wife and had two boys. He was living in the household of Charles C. Moten. The household also had a 73 year old female born in SC. Her name is Ailsy. The writting is difficult to make out, so Ailsy might not be the exact spelling, likewise with the head of the household, Charles C. I have included my Morton Family Report through generation 3. We have also found a G.W. Morton who married 1 year later in Tishomingo Co.,MS to Nancy C. Carelack (12/2/1852). He also migrated to McCleanan Co., TX like Samuel G. Morton. G.W. Morton died at age 77 on 4/3/1907 and Nancy C. died 3/5/1892. So, I'm trying to figure out if Sameul and G.W. Morton are family. Descendants of Samuel Gill Morton Generation No. 1 1. BERRY BUCKANON2 MORTON (SAMUEL GILL1) was born November 18, 1856 in Tishamingo Co, MS, and died March 03, 1934 in Plainview, Hale Co., TX. He married ANNIE CECELIA MCFEE November 18, 1877 in Waco, McLennan Co., TX, daughter of JAMES MCFEE and CASSANDRA HOUGH. She was born March 16, 1863, and died August 15, 1941 in Plainview, Hale Co., TX. Notes for BERRY BUCKANON MORTON: In 1902 Berry "Buck" and his wife, Annie McFee along with their seven children came to Running Water, Hale Co., from Lorena, Hill Co., TX. They came to Canyon by train with all their worldly belongings. When they reached Canyon, the family and belongings had to be freighted by wagons and the stock had to be driven. It is believed that Buck purchased the old Estes place. They lived on this place for a period of about six years. In 1908, Buck bought the section of land located one miles south of Running Water on the draw. This place didn't have a house on it, so Buck moved his family to a rented house in Running Water until he could build a house. The best of yellow pine that could be bought at Fulton's Lumber Co. in Plainview was bought for a new two-story house with nine rooms, a hallway, and a run-around porch. This material was hauled out to the site by mule-drawn wagons. Buck raised mules for sale for freight. In 1918 the family sold their farm for $75 an acre and moved to Plainview where Buck continued to farm and raise mules. In the 1900 McLennan Co., TX census, I found: Buckhanon Morton, W, M, DOB 11/1856, MS, 43yo,married 22 y, Farmer, own farm, father-TX, mother-TX Annie, W,F,DOB 11/1863, TX, 37yo, mother of 9, 8/9 alive, father-Delaware, mother-MS Hugh H.,W,M, DOB 8/1880, TX, 19, Single, 3 mo of school, can read, write and speak English Cassie,W,F,DOB7/1882, TX,17,Single, 4 mo of school, can read, write and speak English Norma, W,F,DOB 4/1884,TX,12, Single, 4 mo of school, can read, write and speak English Ella, W,F,DOB 2/1891,TX,9, Single, 4 mo of school, can read, write, and speak English Roy, W,M,DOB 12/1892,TX,7,Single, 4 mo of school, can read, write, and speak English Guy, W,M,DOB 10/1894, TX, 5, Single, can speak English Lois, W,F,DOB 1/1897, TX, 3, Single, can speak English More About BERRY BUCKANON MORTON: Burial: Unknown, Plainview, Hale Co., TX Cause of Death: Melanoma Cancer Census: 1900, Waco, Mclennan Co., TX, Ed 68, Vol 75, sheet 8, line Notes for ANNIE CECELIA MCFEE: Annie was hit and killed by a car as she crossed the street to retreive her mail from her mailbox. I'm not sure how much help I am going to be, but I have a David MORTON, who may have been born around the right time frame to match yours. I don't have a birth date, but his sister (my great-grandmother) was born in 1897, so he was probably born around that time. He was probably born in Pennsylvania. He's the son of John and Mary C. (Brownawell) MORTON. I'm sorry that I don't have much more information, however. David's siblings are: Matilda Maud Morton, Martha Morton and Lilly Morton. Hi. Just read your posting on David Ira MORTON and although I don't have any pertinent information (I, too, am searching for parents of a David MORTON), I do have a book called TENNESSEE, Family Histories and Genealogies: A Bibliography by Donald M. Hehir. There is one book listed, which I probably need to get myself.Haas, Bishop Elijam Embree. David Morton, A Biography. Nashville, TN. Publishing House of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Smit, Smith & Lamar (this may be a typo in the book and it might be Smith, Smith & Lamar), agents. 1916. x, 214 pages (l12244). You might want to try to find this book. Nina

Hi everyone I am a new member. I am researching the MORTON family line. I would like information on Matthew MORTON b. 1646 in Eyam. He married Sarah HAWKSWORTH in 10 Oct 1667 in Eyam. She was born 12 Apr 1646, Eyam. They had a son, John b.1687 in Eyam. I can find no other children, but there may have been some. Thank you, Dave Greenwell
Nina, I don't know where you live, but I found the "Kin" book in Allen County Library, in Fort Wayne IN. The Salt Lake Library has both books, also. I think the "Kin" has been filmed and you can get it from the Family History Library. Don't know if they filmed the David Morton book yet. Betty T.
Good Afternoon I'm seeking more information on a David Ira Morton who married a Sarah Jane Cook Sept. 8, 1848 in Bradley TN. I'm not sure if this is the right Morton line. But the father of Louisa Jane Morton who married Oliver C Davis was David Morton and her mother name was Sarah Jane Cook. This information comes from Louisa death Certificate. David and Sarah was to have travel by oxen from TN to MO sometime before 1865. As Louisa was born in Rolla MO in 1865. David Morton is listed as being born in PA and Sarah Jane Cook as being born in TN. David was also to have serve in the Civil War on the Union side in TN Any help would be greatly appreciated. Judy
To Nina and all listers researching David Morton, I too have a great Grandfather named David Edgar Morton, born 1862 in IL. He married Anna Patterson in Oct 1883. His parents were John Ruben MORTON, born 1823 in OH?, married Leah KEMMERER, born 1823 in OH?. The parentage information was taken from David's Death Certificate, informant was his son John Phillip MORTON. I do know that David and Anna (or Anylline) lived in the Mattoon, Coles County, IL area when they divorced and around 1926 she went to live near her son and ex-husband in Waurika, Jefferson Co., OK. If these names ring a bell in anyones tree, then please ring mine also as I have hit a brick wall on John and Leah. Thanks, janis in MS
