    3. Hello Cindy, Do not feel that our Mortons are connected, but wonder if you have been in touch with Beverly Teibel who contacted me also through Rootsweb. The email address contains a symbol which I am not familiar so I cannot send it on to you. She also refers to John Morton of Declaration of Independence fame. Should you be interested in contacting her let me know and I will pass on your email address to her. I keep writing her, and Beverly could also be a male. If I ever come across something in my search which is only new and has not got very far that ties in with the names you have provided, I will contact you again. 3. Hello Beverly, Sorry, but none of the names you have mentioned apart from Morton have come into my field of interest just yet, but that is not to say it will not happen as I have only just started work on my great grandmother and have hit nothing but brick walls up to this point. Should I find a connection with your Mortons as I make progress (which I hope I do) I shall be in touch. 1. Re: [MORTON] Great Great Grandparent's Biography
    2. Naomi, I read with interest your msg. on the Morton's of Pike County, Illinois. My line is Winship Morton who migrated from N.C. in early 1820's (unknown county) to Tenn., then to Ill.; ending in Nacogdoches, Texas before 1850 by way of Natchitoches Parish, LA. Winship was born abt. 1784 in N.C. and arrived in Tex. with wife, Nancy (b:1806 Va.), four sons, all born in Illinois between 1826-1839. (Three of the four sons died in the Civil War while serving in the Texas Infantry; one of which was my grgrandfather James Morton, the fourth died before the war in La) I have information that Winship spent his Tennessee time in Hawkins County and his Illinois time in Pike County. He left Ill. in 1841-1842 for La. All this matches closely to the times and places of your Morton family migration. I have no information concerning Winship's parents, but was thinking that he might be a brother or cousin of William (Billy) Morton. Do you have any information that would support or refute this line of thought? Mary Morton Gustine Madisonville, TX

    3. I do not have record of Winship, but I have sent your message on to all my other Morton family contacts in hopes they have any records on Winship Morton. You may hear from some of them. I will keep your message on file. I agree that he must be related to our clan. His birthdate would indicate he might be a brother. 1. [MORTON] Search for John Reuben Morton
    2. Janis Freeman
    3. I am searching for the information on my great great grandfather, JOHN REUBEN MORTON, born abt 1823 in Ohio. He married LEAH KEMMERER, she being born abt 1823 in Ohio. They were married in about 1848 in Ohio and were found in the 1850 Federal Census of Fairfield County, Ohio, Greenfield Township with one son. CHILDREN of: William T. MORTON, born 1849 in Greenfield, OHio David Edgar MORTON, born 1862 in Illinois, died 20 Feb. 1862, married "Anna" Angeline Patterson on 28 Feb. 1864. Children of: Sab Casa MORTON born 14 Dec. 1884, John Phillip MORTON born 7 Dec. 1887, James Benjamin MORTON, born 10 April 1889 and Sarah Elizbeth MORTON, born 27 May 1897. Since the dates of these two siblings are so far apart, we assume there are more children born but no names known for sure. John had a sister named SARAH MORTON, born abt 1827 in OHio as she was living with John and Leah in the 1850 Census and we believe him to have a brother named SETH MORTON from family photo's and family knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA janis in MS
