    2. Betty, thanks so very much for the information about middle names. I'm starting to get my hopes up and feel some excitement, but still have much work to do. One thing for sure -- this list and all the Morton's are the most helpful people I've ever worked with! Makes one proud to be a Morton. Nina

    1. [MORTON] Middle names
    2. Betty L.L. Trantow
    3. Nina, The Mortons have historically used family names as middle names. Both Pryors and Andersons are families that married into various Morton families in VA. I have Andersons and Hughes in my Morton family. Plus an Osborne I can't find. I also have a George Anderson Morton. I know of three of them so far. Betty T.

    1. Re: [MORTON] John Morton
    2. Hi, Pat. My David had two brothers that we know of (George and Thomas) and one sister, Mary Ann. Both George and David named their first-born sons, "James," so we think that might have been after his father. The Morton children from David include Isabella (Ibbie), Mary Ann, Thomas, John, William Asbury, Elizabeth, George Washington, Prior Anderson and Nancy Catherine. We have never been able to find out anything about why my gg-grandfather would name his child Prior (Pryor) and then Anderson as a middle name. It should be a clue, but darn if I can figure it out. George named his children Julia, Kandis, James, George A. and Jasper. I would think the A in both George's name was Anderson. Sorry I haven't been much help to you, but I sure can feel your Morton pain. Ha. Nina

    1. Re: [MORTON] John Morton
    2. Hello Nina, Saw your e-mail; apparently I missed a prior one but in this one you mentioned David Morton, who would be your gggrandfather. Do you know any of his family names? My dad was Grant Morton, and he had two older brothers, David and Frank, and a younger sister, Hazel. Their parents were Grant and Carrie Rufer Morton. They lived in Bellaire, Ohio. Does any of this ring a bell? I'm up against the "brick wall" on my dad's family too, have been able to locate some whose ancestors married into the Morton family but little was known beyond that. Would appreciate knowing if there's a connection. Thanks, Pat Morton Radtke
