    2. Marji, my David MORTON clan from NC to TN were also Methodists. I wonder just how many Morton families connect to the Methodist faith. Just has my curiosity up a tad bit. I know my great grandfather, William Asbury Morton, was named for Bishop Asbury of the Methodist faith. Nina

    2. Hello PF Taylor! I can't elaborate alot of the "Morton" preachers, as I don't have specific knowledge. My line of Mortons stemed from the Pendleton District of SC to Alabama. They may have originated in Orange Co., but I don't believe anyone has a "tie in" yet on that. My Allen Morton (b. 1815 Pendleton Dist. SC) was a son of Marshall Morton, Jr., who was a son of Marshall Morton, Sr. The Mortons in our lineage have tended to be associated with the Methodists and several were Methodist ministers.(some in Texas). Marji Morton Some speculate that our Mortons came from County Antrim, Ireland with a Rev. William Martyn and his congregation from Ballymoney. They sailed from a small port called Larnea, about 17 miles northwest of Belfast. Marshall Jr. was b. Sept 29, 1792 SC and Marshall Sr. was b. abt 1755.

    3. I am looking for information on James M. Morton b. 1825 in TN. His wife's name was Sarah (?)also born in TN. Year unknown. They both died in 1872 in El Paso, White Co., ARK. from small pox. They had nine children: Jennie, Henry W., Thomas B., Fannie, Joseph Alexander, James David, William L., Emily Manville, & Jacob F. All of the children were also born in TN. To my knowledge, none of the children died during with James and Sarah. Lori Morton Magri __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! 2. Yes, there are loads of us. My Grandfather was a direct decendant of George and Julianna thru their son Ephraim as most of us are who are named Morton that are decendants of George and Julianna, since he had the boys!! My Morton Geno. is mostly finished including info from England and my Uncle who did most of the research visited the locations in England and Leyden, Holland. I also have some information on the Carpenter family. This branch of the Mortons are pretty easy to search since there is so much information out there.

    2. Dear Cindy: I don't know the answer to your question about the name "Step," but the locations you mentioned got my attention. My gg grandfather, James Graham Carty Morton, was born in NC in 1789. He married Eloisa (Eliza Steele) about the same time your ggg grandfather was married, because they had their first child in 1815 and migrated to Williamson County, TN, where they spent several years and had several children before going on to southeast Missouri in 1831. I have never been able to learn the names of his parents, nor whether he had any siblings. "Step" could very well have been a brother. Something to think about and work on. James G. C. died in 1838 in Cape Girardeau County, MO. If you learn anything more about your ancestor, let me know. Thanks. LaFern Morton Cockrell

He signed his name as Step on the marriage license and his name also appeared as Step on tax lists, the 1820 census in Williamson County, TN and on his probate records. Thanks for your help.
