Statira Baldwin Quest I am Ramsey Thiel and as my wife Jean M. Thiel, who has corresponded with you in the past, is now legally blind has turned her Statira Baldwin quest over to me. We have question concerning three different Statira Baldwins which supposely married into the Morse family. We hope you or your contacts within the Baldwin family can answer. FIRST: We have records showing that Col. David Moss, married (1st) to Eunice Hall - then (2nd) sometime after 1798 to Statira Baldwin. I have checked the Baldwin family histories at the Allen Co., Library in Ft. Wayne and have been unable to find this Statira. Needed information: Was there a Statira Baldwin married to Col. David Moss, Jr.? Statira’s birth date and place; their marriage date and place; her death date and place? Her mother and father. Which of Col David’s 6 children were born to Statira? NEXT: The Morse Family history book shows Col. Ephrain Hall Moss/Morse, (Col. Ephriam Morse changed his name from Moss to Morse), married to, (1) Deborah Humphreyville, with no second wife shown. Results of research at the Archival Records Center at BGSU, Bowling Green, OH as follows: the 1850 census shows Col. Ephriam Morse and wife Statira living with their son, Henry in Perrysburg, Wood Co., Ohio. where they died. Records show their remains sent by rail to the Oak Grove Cemetery, Dundee Twp., Monroe Co., south of Dundee, Michigan, where they are buried. Their common headstone states: “Col. Ephriam Morse; b. 9-13-1778 d. 8-6-1859, 80 yr, 10 m” and “Statira, b. 5-1-1788; d. 11-21,1855; 67 yr. 6m 2d. At the foot of the large stone is a small military stone “Soldier, War of 1812.” Other records show Statira’s last name as Baldwin. We belive that this Statira is the one recorded on page 352 of the Baldwin Genealogy (call number 929.2 ) which shows, #863 Statira Baldwin’s father as Joseph Baldwin, mother as Rosanna Meloy. This record shows Statira as marrying a Moss. Needed information: Statira’s place of birth; place of her marriage, to Col. Ephriam; and which of Col. Ephriam Morse’s 9 children were born to Statira? LAST: Col. Ephriam’s son, Sidney has a Statira Baldwin; m. >1828, listed as his second wife. No other information known. Needed information: Statira’s birth date and place; their marriage date and place; her death date? Her mother and father. Which of Sidney Morse’s 6 children were born to Statira?
