Bement, 80; was retired Teacher Fannie A. Bement, 80, of 251 Steuben St, Painted Post, a local teacher for many years died Sunday in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. She had been a patient there five weeks. Born in the Town of Campbell Aug 30 1898, she was the daughter of Levi and Vienna Morse Anthony. She married to Harry A Bement who died in 1949. Mrs. Bement had resided in the Painted Post area since 1919. She graduated from Painted Post High School and attended the Northside Training Class. She also took extension courses at Geneseo and Cortland State Colleges. Mrs. Bement first taught school in the Little Red Schoolhouse in East Campbell and later taught in the Town of Orange. She subsequently taught at Frank Pierce School in Coopers Plains, retiring from there in 1965. Mrs. Bement wrote the words to the old Painted Post High School Alma Mater. She was a member of the Painted Post United Methodist Church where she was a former trustee and treasurer for many years. She was a past president of the Painted Post United Methodist Woman, a member of the Corning Area Retired Teacher's Association and Corning Hospital Chapter X. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Ruth) Howard of Elmira; three sons, James of Painted Post, Lyman of Pittsford and Wayne of Avon; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; two sisters, Clara Scudder and Emma Anthony. both of Coopers Plains. Friends may call Tuesday 7-9 pm at the Phillips Funeral Home in Painted Post. Services will be Wednesday at 11 am in the Painted Post United Methodist Church. Born in East Campbell, NY on September 3, 1913, he was the son of Mora and Louise (Anthony) Horton. Robert attended East Campbell School. He was the husband of Ruth Miles whom he married on October 14, 1944 in Campbell and was preceded in death by her in 1990. Besides being a dairy farmer for many years, Robert was a member of the Monterey Fire Department, Coopers Grange, Campbell Milk Producers Co-op, the East Campbell Senior Citizens, and sold seed for Doebler's Seed for many years. He was on the Board of the Town of Orange. He was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Horton, and by a sister, Marion Frost. He is survived by one daughter, Cheryl (John) Apenowich of Painted Post; one son, Roger (Betty Hosmer) Horton of Campbell; one sister, Elizabeth (Ray) Van Dusen of Coopers Plains; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a foster brother, Clarence (Laura) Horton of Painted Post; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his caregiver, Molly Russell; and a close friend, Earl Sutton. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 14 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Phillips Funeral Home Inc., 17 W.
