This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UN2.2ACIB/1219 Message Board Post: Anyone with information PLEASE help. My great-grandfather, Clifford Morse (supposedly his name) disappeared in the 1920's. I have heard rumors of multiple wives/children, connections to NY, CA, VT, WI, and IN. No one from the Morse society can connect my family - they call us a "fragment." I was born and raised a Morse in Michigan City, IN. Supposedly the two Morse families in Michigan City are related, but no one will talk. I grew up hearing that elders in California know what happened, but will not speak to anyone in my family. I tried to find answers for my grandfather and great uncle, as well as my father, and now all have passed. We have been looking for answers as a family for more than 60 years, and no one will tell us about our family heritage/history. Please - if anyone out there knows, I want to put this puzzle together. I can be reached via e-mail at emorse1@columbus.rr.com or posterica@hotmail.com. Thank you, and please - if you know something - come forward. Erica Morse-Post
Erica: If you have a MORSE brother or male cousin, they could represent you in a y-DNA test, that could put you on the right track. (Female y-DNA does not work for this kind of testing.) You could join either the Morse Society y-DNA study which primarily represents the early northern New England MORSE lines, or the Morse-2 y-DNA study that represents primarily the early middle and southern New England MORSE lines. The Morse Society and the Morse-2 y-DNA groups share & compare their data when individuals from each group match. To join the Morse-2 group, visit: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=K30398&special=true where group rates are offered for the y-DNA testing. If you find later that your participation would be more appropriately in the Morse Society, you can switch your test results to that group. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.
