Robert Morse Killed in Action; Popular Post Private Robert Morse, Jr, 21, was killed in Germany on November 18 while fighting with his regiment, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morse, First Street, Painted Post, were notified Monday afternoon. According to the message, the popular Post man was killed while manning a machine gun. Pvt. Morse was born in Painted Post, Feb 4, 1923 and attended Post Schools. Prior to his induction in the Army on December 31, 1942, he was employed by Corning Glass Works. He was stationed at several camps in the States before leaving in May of this year for overseas duty. On July 12 he was wounded in France while trying to save the life of a comrade and was awarded the Order of Purple Heart for his bravery and wounds received, Pvt Morse also held the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Painted Post First Baptist Church. Memorial rites will be held for him there at a later date. Besides his parents, Pvt. Morse leaves a sister, Mrs. Carl Gurnsey of Cation, niece and nephews, Marilyn and Carl Gurnsey Jr., several aunts and uncles and a grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Morse. from my records: Descendants of Samuel T.
