I have recently discovered that one brother "Clyde" was given to his Aunt because they could not have children. He was not happy about it and does not appear in any family photos. My grandfather moved to Australia in 1946. I am still learning about this family as the records are so far away but please E-mail me to see if we are connected. his DOB was 7 april 1911. Hello Morse / Moss researchers! Thanks to Colleen and Beverly we have a new and improved y-DNA chart to reflect the results of the testing within our group. Last week I had given you the link provided by Family Tree DNA. Unfortunately they do not let us change the order in which the test results are listed, nor do they allow us to add color. Now we have a chart that groups like y-DNA markers by color, allowing us to easily see who is somehow related and who is not. You will want to bookmark this site: http://user.mc.net/~jjmcard/index.html Once you get there, click on the link entitled "Morse - Moss Family y-DNA". Please note that the y-DNA results reflect ALL participants in our Morse / Moss study representing the central and southern United States even though the chart appears on the Ebenezer Morse Family's home page. We already had the website, so are able to add the y-DNA chart at no extra cost. This should make it alot easier for all of us to understand the results of our tests. Ann: There are two Morse Y-DNA test groups and I work with both. The reason for two is that one group represents the early northeastern Morse groups and the other represents the remaining early Morse families (Maryland, SC, NC, VA, TN, GA, KY). The first group is called MORSE and the second group is called MORSE-2. We divided all the Morses / Mosses into two groups to make it easier to handle. The first group is managed by the Morse Society. Their website can be found at http://www.morsesociety.org/ where you may find additional information about your family if you are of the northeastern Morse lines. If your earliest known Morse is from Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, or Kentucky, then you would want to join the Morse-2 group. To join Morse (Northern Morses) or Morse-2 (Maryland and south & west of there), click on: http://www.familytreedna.com/name_search.asp where you will be given the choice of either. Fill out the brief form and choose the test you want. We recommend the 12-marker test at $99 for starters. Once you find who you match, you can decide if you want to proceed further. Please remember that your brother must have the last name MORSE for this test to be effective for you. May I recommend that you only have one of your brothers tested? Why spend the money when they should have identical markers. If you want to have more than one person tested, try to find a distant male cousin who still has the surname MORSE (any spelling). This will yield a more well-rounded yDNA profile of your family. Once you order the test, the kit is mailed to you (or your brother, depending on the address you give). He will simply swab the inside of his cheek and return the sample to the lab. Results are available in about 6 weeks. At that time his markers will be compared to others within our test group, as well as with others around the world. His sample will be kept for 25 years so further testing can be done at a later date. As time goes on, it is conceivable that more markers and their meanings will be identifiable. Thanks for your interest. We hope you will decide to join. Most of us have made tremendous progress with the y-DNA testing since it picks up where traditional paper trails end.
