I am looking for some dates and information for Joseph Morse married to Mary Tucker. They were from Swansea, MA./Rhode Island. My dates are not making sense. I have Joseph born c 1722 and residing in Newport, Rhode Island and married 2 Dec. 1744 in Newport. My dates for Mary Tucker are very questionable. Rhode Island and MA's lines crossed over numerous times. For their children I have: William, Sarah, John and Betsy. There were no doubt more unless Mary died early. Know William married Mary Eddy and Mary applied for a Rev. War Pension in New York. Children of William Morse and Mary Eddy: Isreal, Benjamin, Capt. Joseph, Stephen, Sarah, William Jr., Betsy, Martha, Preserved(Male) and James. Isreal is my line. Louisville, KY

Hi, Becky I am of the Anthony Morse line; it goes this way: me, my mother, my grandmother, my great grandmother Laura May (Morse) Estabrook, Jacob Morse2, Jacob Morse1, Enoch Morse, Phillip Morse, Benjamin Morse, Anthony Morse2 (came to Newbury, Essex, MA in 1635), Anthony Morse1 (of Marlborough, England). I am wondering which line of Morses might be your connection? There are still Morses of my/Anthony's line here in Maine I wonder whopse daughter Sarah J. Morse was -- mother of Lizzie Borden? Thanks. Donald W. Beattie in Winthrop, ME.
I have Andrew Jackson BORDEN and Sarah J. MORSE who were Lizzie Borden's parents. Is this the line you are doing? I am related to them on my BOWEN line. I do have a MORSE line, but can't find the connection to Sarah MORSE. Happy Hunting Becky

Anthony MORSE married Rhody MORRISON and they had the following children: John V. MORSE (did not marry), Sarah A. (spouse was Andrew BORDEN), Louisa A. or M. MORSE (married-?), William B. MORSE (of Excelsior, MN, spouse Anna), Joseph L. MORSE (married Mary Louisa MORRISON? first cousins?) and Arabella MORSE (married John DAVIDSON). I found the asnwer to my question, at http://www.obliquity.com/family/records/fisxxx01.html. Morse genealogy was wrong. Lydia was daughter of Anthony II, the one who came to New England. ;) -- Yours, Dora Smith Austin, TX villandra@austin.rr.com
Daniel Morse, son of Samuel Morse of Dedham, married Lydia Fisher. Morse genealogy gives her parents Anthony and Mary Fisher who were around 50 years old when she was born, and he gives no source. Who were actually her parents, and how do we know that? Where do the Fisher christening dates and so forth that I have been tripping over come from? Why do we think Mary was Mary Fiske? I can find them attributed only to LDS, which has the Morse lines screwed up like nothing I've ever seen! Like, noone married fewer than three different members of the Morse family, and noone married a Morse fewer than three times - only good luck often figuring out who that was. One intrepid individual at Rootsweb had her born to Anthony's and Mary's son Anthony, and while that makes more sense, he gave no clue where he got it. Marjorie was then about 20. Would like to see this lovely portrait back in the hands of the family. The photo is similar to "cabinet" size. I have it filed in a box of larger photographs in my collection. Steve

Hello MORSE / MOSS researchers: As your MORSE / MOSS y-DNA Group Administrators we are delighted to inform you that Family Tree DNA has just sent us a $75 Gift Certificate to be used as follows: Two $30 Gift Certificates to be used only with a NEW PARTICIPANT on a Y-DNA25 or a Y-DNA37 - (one certificate per participant) One $15 Gift Certificate for a NEW mtDNA participant. Kits must be ordered and paid for by December 31st, 2005 and are not valid for test upgrades, add-ons or Y-DNA12. Since we only have 3 Gift Certificates, we will have to honor them in the order requests are received to make it fair for all of our MORSE / MOSS researchers. Please be aware that we will have to assist the winners of the Gift Certificates in obtaining the rebate as there is a special code that needs to be used. Please send your responses to me, Debbie, at jjmcard@mc.net rather than Beverly - just to avoid confusion. For those unfamiliar with y-DNA testing, please visit our MORSE / MOSS website at: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Morse%2D2/ and be sure to scroll down to the chart. There are links that will take you to explanations of the DNA process and how it relates to genealogy. The "y" in "y-DNA" identifies the group of markers that are passed from father to son, father to son, father to son, etc. So, by testing a living male MOSS / MORSE, a person can find other living male MORSEs / MOSSs with matching y-DNA indicating they share a common ancestor. It's like identifying the y-DNA of your ancestor who was buried 250 years ago without digging up his grave! Once a participant finds another matching participant within the group, they compare their research, hopefully enabling them to break down some brick walls in their genealogical research. y-DNA testing is particularly helpful with common surnames like MOSS and MORSE - there are so many it is sometimes difficult to sort them out. Y-DNA does that for us. The number "25" or "37" simply identifies the number of markers in the test. Currently tests are available in 12, 25, or 37 markers, the 37-marker test obviously the most revealing. The $30 Gift Certificate offered by Family Tree DNA is good only for a new participant in the 25 or 37 marker test. The mtDNA test group is for the maternal line, but at this point in time is of more anthropological importance and has no real genealogical value. Next let me say that Beverly and I are not affiliated with Family Tree DNA except that we volunteered, as a MORSE / MOSS researchers, to manage the test group. We are not compensated in any way. We believe in the value and future of y-DNA testing in relation to genealogical research, which is why we have invested our time and effort in this surname group. Sincerely, Debbie WARD McArdle & Beverly White WARD y-DNA Group Administrators
