    3. Dobbs Ferry is in Westchester County, but close enough that some of the family might have neded up there. Have never seen any reference to this family in Westchester, but that doesn't mean one or more may have moved there, especially daughters who may have married.

    1. Morse, Sarah b abt 1723 & her brother Peter of NH, MA, VT
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Morse, Johnson, Bonett Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UN2.2ACIB/1220 Message Board Post: WANTED: Information on Sarah MORSE b probably abt 1723, MA or NH, sister to Peter Morse who was among the first Selectmen of the town of Hampstead, Rockingham, New Hampshire. Sarah Morse married in Jan 1751 as his second wife, John Johnson 1711-1762 (Haverhill MA – Hampstead, NH), son of Deacon Thomas Johnson (1670-1742, Haverhill, MA) and Elizabeth Page who were married in 1700. John Johnson was also one of the first Selectmen of the town of Hampstead, NH. John Johnson was married first to Sarah Haynes, by whom he had 10 children, with five surviving their mother who died in Sept 1750. Sarah Morse (birth and death unknown; but she was a sister to Peter Morse); Probably born about 1723, but no good source for any dates on her. She remarried to a Samuel Way abt 1763, who died abt 1766-67 in Newbury, Vermont; and Sarah Morse Johnson Way may have married a third time to a Mr. Barnet [if that is the correct spelling]. She seems to have lived [perhaps died] in Enfield, Vermont. It is said she went to Vermont where one or more of her Johnson step-sons were living. John Johnson and Sarah Morse had seven children, with the last one born a few months before the death of their father. The children were: Sarah b 29 Oct 1751, twins Ruth and Elizabeth b 23 April 1754, Peter b 7 June 1756, Judith b 4 Apr 1758, Joh, b 9 Feb 1760, and Tamma or Tamar b 6 July 1761—surnamed JOHNSON. The youngest daughter, Tamma (or Tamar) Johnson born 6 July 1761 (just before the death of her father in April 1762), married about 1784 (after the close of the American Revolution) a returned soldier of that war, Joseph Bonnett (more often spelled Bonett), 1757-1824. They lived in Vermont. We know that Tamma was still living in 1836 when she petitioned Congress for a pension on her husband’s war service (he had had a pension during his lifetime and had also received bounty land, which he sold); we do not know her death or burial information – nor any official list of her children. My friend descends from this last child, Tamma Johnson who married Joseph Bonnett (Bonett)—a surname which is very often mis-transcribed in most records. We are willing to exchange information on any of these lines. We are especially interested in determining the parents of Sarah Morse and her brother Peter Morse… born abt 1720s in either Massachusetts or New Hampshire; and may have died in NH or Vermont. 3. Get his death certificate, and see if you can learn his date and place of birth and names of his parents. Then send for his birth certificate. Burial records could also yield information about when he was born. Census records should tell you approximately when he was born, though people often get their ages wrong by as much as five years, and also give you an idea what state or country he was born in - and check all available census records for that. If you can pin down his identity sufficiently get an ancestry.com subscription for the census, and search all likely years for him nationwide. The name Roy Morse alone might or migh tnot yield too many hits. In some years, the census will tell you how long people had been married for, so you atleast know when to look for documentation. When you've got all the info on him, begin again with his parents. Obits and death announcements are other excellent ways to get info, and they often list the entire family and life history. If you can learn where he might have married you might possibly also find a wedding announcement. 1. y-DNA Testing to connect your Morse dots
    2. Debbie & Jim McArdle
    3. Erica: If you have a MORSE brother or male cousin, they could represent you in a y-DNA test, that could put you on the right track. (Female y-DNA does not work for this kind of testing.) You could join either the Morse Society y-DNA study which primarily represents the early northern New England MORSE lines, or the Morse-2 y-DNA study that represents primarily the early middle and southern New England MORSE lines. The Morse Society and the Morse-2 y-DNA groups share & compare their data when individuals from each group match. To join the Morse-2 group, visit: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=K30398&special=true where group rates are offered for the y-DNA testing. If you find later that your participation would be more appropriately in the Morse Society, you can switch your test results to that group. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know. (The Morse Society y-DNA group represents, primarily, the northern New England Morse lines. The Morse-2 y-DNA group represents, primariy, the Morse and Moss lines south of there.) The resulting markers show that this Ebenezer Morse is somehow related to your Anthony Morse (and William Morse) of northern New England. My question is: Is your Morse - Bumpus connection and my Morse - Bumpass connection coincidental, or do you have any information showing part of your Bumpus line migrating into the southern states? As you know, genealogical research proves that early settlers in this country traveled in groups for many generations, so it may be possible that our Bumpus lines are related since our Morse lines are related as proven by y-DNA testing. Look forward to hearing from you. Debbie McArdle
